Main Ingredients- 2 handfuls of Tteokbokki rice cakes (approx. 200g)
- 20 Vienna sausages or your favorite sausages
- Cooking oil, as needed
Soy Sauce Glaze- 1 Tbsp soy sauce (15ml)
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce (15ml)
- 1 Tbsp sugar (15g)
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup or oligo-dang (15ml)
- 3 Tbsp water (45ml)
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce (15ml)
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce (15ml)
- 1 Tbsp sugar (15g)
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup or oligo-dang (15ml)
- 3 Tbsp water (45ml)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, score the sausages by making cuts about 1cm apart to make them more visually appealing. Rinse the tteokbokki rice cakes under cold water and drain. Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a wide frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the rice cakes and scored sausages. Stir-fry them until they turn golden brown and slightly crispy, as if deep-frying. The rice cakes should have a slightly crisp exterior, and the sausages should puff up nicely.
Step 2
While the rice cakes and sausages are cooking, prepare the soy sauce glaze. In a small bowl, combine 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp oyster sauce, 1 Tbsp sugar, 1 Tbsp corn syrup (or oligo-dang), and 3 Tbsp water. Stir well until the sugar is dissolved. The oyster sauce adds a wonderful umami depth to the sauce.
Step 3
Once the rice cakes and sausages are nicely crisped, reduce the heat to low. Pour all the prepared soy sauce glaze into the frying pan. Quickly toss everything together to ensure the sauce evenly coats the rice cakes and sausages. Let it simmer and thicken slightly, stirring for about 1-2 minutes until the sauce becomes glossy. Be careful not to let the sauce burn.
Step 4
Your delicious sweet and savory soy sauce tteokbokki is now complete! Transfer the tteokbokki to a serving plate. It’s best enjoyed hot and chewy, but it also becomes more intensely savory as it cools slightly. This dish is perfect as a snack for kids or as a tasty accompaniment to a cold beer.
