  • 1/4 onion
  • 1 handful of green onions
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • 1 tsp oligo당 (oligosaccharide, or corn syrup)
  • A pinch of sesame seeds
  • 1/3 cup water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Let’s make a savory and delicious braised fish cake dish with soy sauce! It’s a wonderfully soft and flavorful side dish that’s perfect for any meal.

Step 1

Step 2

First, heat about 1-2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the chopped green onions and stir-fry until fragrant, creating green onion-infused oil. This step adds a wonderful aroma to the dish. Be careful not to burn the green onions.

Step 2

Step 3

Cut the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces (about 2cm wide) and add them to the pan along with the sliced onion. Stir-fry over medium heat until the onion becomes slightly translucent and the fish cakes soften. Continue to sauté for about 2-3 minutes.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, it’s time to add the seasonings. Add 1 tsp soy sauce, 1 tsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes), and 1 tsp oligo당 (or corn syrup) to the pan. Stir everything together well, coating the fish cakes and onions evenly. Continue to stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Step 4

Step 5

Pour in 1/3 cup of water and let it simmer. Continue to cook and stir for another minute or two until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the ingredients beautifully. Adding a little water helps to create a moist and flavorful braise.

Step 5

Step 6

Finally, sprinkle a pinch of sesame seeds over the dish. Your soft and delicious soy sauce braised fish cakes and onions are ready! This dish remains tender even when cooled, making it an excellent choice for lunchboxes or picnics. Enjoy this delightful side dish!
