I often buy smoked duck, but one day I spotted smoked pork belly and impulsively bought it. I wondered what would pair well with it, and decided to stir-fry it with broccoli! The subtle smokiness of the pork belly combined with the fresh, crisp broccoli creates a delightful dish that’s perfect as a meal or a side dish with drinks. Try making this special dish with simple ingredients for a unique flavor!

  • 500g Smoked Pork Belly
  • 1 head Fresh Broccoli
  • 3 cloves Whole Garlic
  • 1/2 Onion
  • 1/2 Green Onion

Cooking Instructions

First, let’s prepare all the ingredients. Thinly slice the 1/2 onion. Slice the 3 whole garlic cloves into thin pieces to release their aroma. Cut the 1/2 green onion into pieces similar in length to the onion. Cut the 1 head of fresh broccoli into bite-sized florets. If you wish to use the stem, peel the outer layer thinly and slice it into manageable pieces.

Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the sliced garlic and chopped green onions first. Stir-fry them until fragrant. You’ll know they’re ready when a lovely aroma starts to fill your kitchen.

Once the garlic and green onions are fragrant, add the sliced onion to the pan. Stir-fry along with the garlic and green onions until the onion becomes translucent. This process will bring out the natural sweetness of the onion, enhancing the overall flavor.

Now, add the prepared broccoli florets to the pan and stir-fry briefly. Be careful not to overcook the broccoli; stir-fry for just 1-2 minutes until the color becomes vibrant green. This will help maintain its crisp texture.

After briefly stir-frying the broccoli, add the main ingredient, smoked pork belly, to the pan. Since the smoked pork belly is pre-cooked, it’s best to cook it over medium heat until the surface is lightly browned and slightly crispy. This enhances its delicious texture.

Once the pork belly and vegetables are partially cooked, pour in 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, 3 tablespoons of cooking wine, and 3 tablespoons of water. Stir well to ensure the sauce evenly coats all the ingredients. You can temporarily remove the broccoli at this stage to prevent it from becoming too soft if you prefer.
