Main Ingredients- 300g fresh Petasites Japonicus stems
Seasoning & Others- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 2 Tbsp savory tuna extract
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 Tbsp perilla seed powder
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds for garnish
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 2 Tbsp savory tuna extract
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 Tbsp perilla seed powder
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds for garnish
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, carefully peel the tough outer skin from the Petasites Japonicus stems. Once peeled, rinse them thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or debris.
Step 2
Cut the prepared stems into bite-sized pieces. To make them easier to handle while cooking and eating, cut them into lengths of about 5-7 cm.
Step 3
Bring a pot of water to a rolling boil. Add the cut Petasites Japonicus stems and 1 teaspoon of salt to help eliminate any bitterness. Boil for about 5 minutes, or until the stems become tender.
Step 4
Immediately after boiling, rinse the stems under cold running water to cool them down. This step helps to maintain their crisp texture. Once rinsed, drain them well in a colander.
Step 5
Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium heat. Add the drained Petasites Japonicus stems, 2 tablespoons of tuna extract for a savory flavor, 1 teaspoon of minced garlic for aroma, and 1/2 cup of water to keep them moist while stir-frying. Sauté for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 6
Once the stems have absorbed some of the seasoning, add 2 tablespoons of fragrant perilla seed powder to further enhance the dish’s flavor. Stir well to combine, ensuring the powder doesn’t clump.
Step 7
Finally, sprinkle a pinch of toasted sesame seeds for a glossy finish and nutty aroma, and give it a final gentle toss. Your delicious Perilla Seed Stir-fried Petasites Japonicus Stems are ready to be enjoyed with a warm bowl of rice!
