  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Stir-fry
  • Servings : 3 servings
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients
  • 1/3 medium radish (approx. 200g)
  • 2 Tbsp perilla seed powder
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • 1/2 green onion

Seasoning & Others
  • 1 cup rice water (using a paper cup, approx. 200ml)
  • 2 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 3 Tbsp perilla oil
  • Salt to taste (adjust as needed)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare 1/3 of a medium radish. Using a mandoline slicer will help you cut it into uniform julienne strips easily. Slice the radish into strips about 0.5cm thick. (This should be around 200g.)

Step 2

Prepare 1/2 green onion, which will add a fragrant aroma. Finely chop it so it’s ready to use. (You can use both the white and green parts.)

Step 3

Prepare 2 tablespoons of minced garlic, which forms the base of the seasoning. Using freshly minced garlic will enhance the flavor.

Step 4

Now it’s time to stir-fry. Get a lidded frying pan and heat it over medium heat. Once the pan is warm, add 3 tablespoons of perilla oil generously for a rich, nutty flavor.

Step 5

When the pan is sufficiently heated, add the 2 tablespoons of minced garlic. Stir-fry over medium-low heat, being careful not to burn it, until fragrant. It’s even better if the garlic turns lightly golden.

Step 6

As soon as you can smell the garlic aroma, add all the julienned radish to the pan and stir-fry quickly with the garlic for about 1-2 minutes, ensuring the radish is coated with the oil.

Step 7

Once the radish is lightly coated with oil, pour in 1 cup of rice water (using a paper cup, approx. 200ml). The rice water will help soften the radish and add a deeper flavor. Stir well, then reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let it steam gently for about 5-7 minutes, until the radish becomes translucent and tender.

Step 8

When the radish is cooked and has softened, remove the lid. Add 2 tablespoons of perilla seed powder, the key to its savory taste. Stir and cook for another 1-2 minutes, mixing well. Finally, season with salt to your preference. It’s best to add salt little by little while tasting.

Step 9

This is the final step! Sprinkle the chopped green onions and a pinch of sesame seeds on top. Your delicious and aromatic Perilla Seed Radish Stir-fry is now complete. It’s also incredibly tasty served over warm rice!
