- 1 Korean Green Chili Pepper (finely chopped, seeds removed for less heat)
- 1/2 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Oil (for rich aroma)
- A pinch of Black Pepper (to enhance flavor)
- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce (use low-sodium soy sauce; adjust to taste)
- 1 Tbsp Oligodang (corn syrup or honey, for sweetness and shine)
- 1 Korean Green Chili Pepper (finely chopped, seeds removed for less heat)
- 1/2 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Oil (for rich aroma)
- A pinch of Black Pepper (to enhance flavor)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the delicious seasoning for our cabbage rolls. In a bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of oligodang, stirring well to mix. Finely chop the Korean green chili pepper (removing the seeds for milder heat if desired) and add it to the bowl. Stir in 1/2 tablespoon of toasted sesame oil and a pinch of black pepper to elevate the flavors. Whisk everything together until well combined to create a flavorful glaze.
Step 2
Next, we’ll cook the baby napa cabbage. Bring a pot of water to a rolling boil. Carefully submerge the whole head of baby napa cabbage into the boiling water and cook for about 5 minutes, or until the core is tender when pierced with a fork. Once cooked, drain the cabbage gently, allowing any excess water to drip off.
Step 3
Now it’s time to roll the cooked cabbage. Starting from the core, gently fold the leaves one by one, layering them as you roll the cabbage tightly into a log shape. It’s important to roll it firmly so it holds its shape. Heat 3 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Place the rolled cabbage seam-side down in the hot oil.
Step 4
Let the cabbage sear for a few minutes until the bottom is golden brown and slightly crispy. Then, carefully flip the cabbage to brown the other sides. Continue to turn and pan-fry, allowing all sides to become nicely golden and caramelized. The cabbage will shrink slightly as it cooks, making it easier to handle and giving it a beautiful shape.
Step 5
Once the cabbage is beautifully golden brown on all sides, transfer it to a serving plate. The appetizing golden hue will make your dish look even more appealing.
Step 6
Finally, generously drizzle the prepared savory glaze over the pan-fried cabbage rolls. Make sure the glaze gets into all the crevices. For a final touch, sprinkle a pinch of sesame seeds over the top. This adds a wonderful nutty aroma and visual appeal. Your Savory Napa Cabbage Rolls are ready to be enjoyed immediately for a delightful crunchy and flavorful experience!
