A delicious soy sauce braised tofu dish featuring king oyster mushrooms. This recipe offers a delightful blend of tender tofu and chewy mushrooms, seasoned to perfection.
Ingredients- Tofu 380g (firm, for pan-frying recommended)
- King Oyster Mushroom 1 (medium to large)
- Red Chili 1/2 (for color and a hint of spice)
Seasoning- Dark Soy Sauce 4 Tbsp
- Water 4 Tbsp
- Minced Garlic 2 Tbsp
- Corn Syrup 1 Tbsp (for shine and sweetness)
- Sesame Oil 1 Tbsp
- Toasted Sesame Seeds 1 Tbsp

Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, pat the tofu dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Cut it into bite-sized pieces (cubes or rectangles). Generously coat a pan with grapeseed oil and pan-fry the tofu pieces until golden brown on both sides. Season lightly with salt and pepper while frying for enhanced flavor. (Pan-frying makes the tofu firmer and tastier.)
Step 2
Trim the ends of the king oyster mushroom and slice it into manageable pieces. Slicing them not too thinly will provide a satisfying chewiness.
Step 3
Push the pan-fried tofu to one side of the pan. In the cleared space, add the sliced king oyster mushrooms and all the seasoning ingredients (dark soy sauce, water, minced garlic, corn syrup). Gently mix the mushrooms with the seasonings using a spatula, then combine everything with the tofu, ensuring it’s evenly coated.
Step 4
Reduce the heat to medium and simmer until the sauce is slightly reduced and thickened. Flip the tofu pieces occasionally to ensure they absorb the flavors evenly.
Step 5
Once the sauce has thickened to your liking, add the thinly sliced red chili and mix well. Turn off the heat, then drizzle with sesame oil and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds for a nutty aroma and flavor. This completes your delicious savory braised tofu with king oyster mushrooms.
