Savory Braised Mackerel with Radish
Delicious Braised Mackerel with Salted Mackerel and Radish, a Perfect Dinner Side Dish
Let’s make a delicious and flavorful braised mackerel with radish. This dish is comforting and pairs wonderfully with rice!
Main Ingredients
- Salted mackerel 1.5 pieces (cleaned and cut)
- Radish 1/2 medium (about 300g)
- Broth or rice water 500ml
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
We’re going to make a delicious braised mackerel today! The addition of radish makes this dish even more refreshing and flavorful. It’s a fantastic side dish that will have you reaching for more rice.
Step 2
First, prepare the delicious braising sauce. In 500ml of broth (or rice water), combine 1 Tbsp gochugaru, 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp sugar, and 1 tsp minced garlic. Stir well. Finally, add the chopped green onion. You can adjust the amount of gochugaru to your spice preference, or omit it if you’re serving to children.
Step 3
Next, place the radish, cut into generous chunks, at the bottom of a pot. Layering the radish helps prevent the mackerel from sticking and burning, and it also absorbs the sauce beautifully, becoming tender and flavorful. Arrange the cleaned mackerel pieces on top of the radish.
Step 4
Pour the prepared sauce evenly over the mackerel and radish. Bring it to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes. To ensure even flavor distribution, you can spoon some of the broth over the fish and radish occasionally.
Step 5
Once the radish is tender and translucent, and the sauce has thickened slightly, your delicious braised mackerel with radish is ready! Serve it over a bowl of hot rice for a truly satisfying meal. Enjoy!
