Main Ingredients

  • Beef (for Bulgogi) 100g
  • Carrot 1/4 pc
  • Onion 1/4 pc
  • Bacon 2 strips
  • Eggs 2 pcs
  • Day-old Rice 1 bowl (approx. 200g)
  • Cashew Nut Powder (optional)

Seasoning

  • Soy Sauce 1 Tbsp
  • Sugar 1 Tbsp
  • Minced Garlic 1.5 Tbsp (total)
  • Sesame Seeds (for garnish)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the bulgogi marinade. In a bowl, combine 100g of beef with 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp sugar, and 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic. Mix well and let it marinate for a short while. Marinating the beef beforehand allows the flavors to penetrate deeply, making it much more delicious.

Prepare the vegetables and bacon for the fried rice. Finely chop the carrot and onion into bite-sized pieces that are suitable for fried rice. Cut the bacon into similar pieces or according to your preference.

Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Crack in the eggs and scramble them until they are cooked to your liking. Push the scrambled eggs to one side of the pan. Add the shredded carrots and onions to the empty space and stir-fry until they become translucent. This process gently cooks the vegetables, bringing out their natural sweetness.

Break up any clumps in the cold, day-old rice using a spoon, and stir-fry it in the pan until it becomes fluffy and slightly toasted. Be careful to prevent it from sticking to the bottom. You can either mix the scrambled eggs with the rice or keep them on the side of the pan.

Now, push the fried rice, vegetables, and eggs to one side of the pan. Add the marinated beef bulgogi to the cleared space and stir-fry over high heat. Cooking it quickly over high heat will help seal in the juices, keeping the beef tender and flavorful.

Spread the beef bulgogi thinly in the pan and add the sliced bacon. Cook them together. The rendered fat from the bacon will infuse the entire fried rice with a wonderful savory aroma and taste.

Reduce the heat to medium-low. If needed, add a little more cooking oil to the side with the rice, vegetables, and bacon. Stir-fry everything together quickly, ensuring it doesn’t stick to the pan. Mix well so that each grain of rice is coated with oil and flavor.

Once the beef bulgogi is cooked through, combine all the ingredients in the pan and stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Turn off the heat. Finally, sprinkle the remaining 1 Tbsp minced garlic and sesame seeds over the top and mix well for an even more appealing finish.

For an extra touch of deliciousness, sprinkle some cashew nut powder over the finished fried rice. While it’s already incredibly tasty without it, the cashew nut powder adds a delightful nutty fragrance and richness.
