Delicious ‘Beef and Napa Cabbage Stir-fry’ Made Simply and Quickly
Here’s a delightful side dish made with leftover beef and napa cabbage from making Mala Xiang Guo! This Beef and Napa Cabbage Stir-fry is not only delicious as a standalone side but also fantastic when mixed with rice. It’s a quick and tasty way to use up ingredients and create a satisfying meal.
Main Ingredients- Beef (for Bulgogi or Shabu-shabu), 300g
- Napa Cabbage, 4-5 leaves
- Green Onion, sliced diagonally
- Red Chili Pepper, 1 (sliced diagonally)
- Serrano Chili Pepper, 1 (optional, for extra spice, sliced diagonally)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin by soaking the beef in cold water for about 10 minutes to remove excess blood. This step helps to eliminate any gamey flavor and results in a cleaner taste.
Step 2
After draining the beef, pat it thoroughly dry with paper towels. In a bowl, combine the beef with the prepared marinade ingredients (1 tsp soy sauce, 1 tsp cooking wine, 1/2 tsp minced garlic, 1/2 tsp minced ginger, and a pinch of black pepper). Gently mix to ensure the marinade coats the beef evenly, then let it marinate for 10 minutes.
Step 3
Cut the napa cabbage into bite-sized pieces, approximately 2-3 cm square. Avoid cutting them too small, as they might break down too much during cooking. Slice the green onion diagonally, and remove the seeds from the red and serrano chili peppers before slicing them diagonally as well. The chilies add color and a pleasant kick.
Step 4
Heat a little cooking oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry until its surface is browned. Cooking it quickly over high heat helps to seal in the juices.
Step 5
Once the beef is mostly browned, add the cut napa cabbage to the pan. Stir-fry them together with the beef. Continue to cook over medium heat until the cabbage begins to wilt and soften.
Step 6
When the napa cabbage has softened slightly, add the sliced green onions, red chili peppers, and serrano chili peppers to the pan. Stir-fry everything together for another minute or two. Aim to keep the vegetables slightly crisp for the best texture.
Step 7
Continue to stir-fry for an additional 1-2 minutes, ensuring all ingredients are well combined. If you prefer a stronger savory flavor, you can add a little more soy sauce at this stage, to taste.
Step 8
Remove the pan from the heat and drizzle with 1/2 teaspoon of sesame oil. Give it a final stir to distribute the nutty aroma throughout the dish.
Step 9
Transfer the delicious Beef and Napa Cabbage Stir-fry to a serving plate. This dish makes a wonderful side for rice or can be enjoyed as a flavorful standalone meal. Serve hot and enjoy!
