Main Ingredients

  • 4 sheets fish cakes (eomuk), approx. 270g
  • 1 red chili pepper
  • 1 Korean green chili pepper (tteangcho)
  • 1/2 stalk green onion

Seasoning

  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
  • 3 Tbsp corn syrup (mulyeot) or other liquid sweetener
  • 3 Tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 ladle anchovy or kelp broth (or water)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the ingredients. Cut the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces, such as triangles, for easy eating. Finely chop the red chili pepper and Korean green chili pepper, removing the seeds. Slice the green onion diagonally. Having all ingredients prepped will make the cooking process much smoother.

Step 1

Step 2

Heat 3 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the cut fish cakes and stir-fry until they are lightly golden brown. This step is crucial for developing a chewy texture and enhancing the flavor of the fish cakes.

Step 2

Step 3

Push the stir-fried fish cakes to one side of the pan. In the cleared space, add the minced garlic (1 Tbsp), soy sauce (1 Tbsp), gochugaru (2 Tbsp), oyster sauce (1 Tbsp), and corn syrup (3 Tbsp). Reduce the heat to low to prevent the seasonings from burning. Stir the seasonings for a moment to release their aroma and flavor. Then, mix everything together with the fish cakes. Adding about 1 ladle of anchovy or kelp broth (or water) will keep the fish cakes moist and tender.

Step 3

Step 4

Finally, add the chopped red chili pepper, Korean green chili pepper, and green onion to the pan. Increase the heat to high and stir-fry quickly for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, just until the vegetables are slightly softened but still retain their crispness and vibrant color. Once all ingredients are well combined, your delicious stir-fried fish cakes are ready to enjoy!
