Easy and Hearty Spam Kimchi Inari Sushi
A delightful Inari sushi featuring the classic combination of Spam and kimchi! Everyone from kids to adults will love the savory Spam and tangy kimchi nestled in seasoned rice. Perfect with ramen or as a standalone meal, these Spam Kimchi Inari Sushi are sure to be a hit. Follow these simple steps to create a delicious and satisfying treat!
Ingredients- 8 sheets of square fried tofu pouches (Inari age)
- 2 cups cooked rice (warm)
- 1/2 can Spam (approx. 150g)
- 1/2 cup kimchi (well-fermented)
- 1 stalk scallion (approx. 10cm)
- 1/2 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- A pinch of sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
In a bowl, combine the warm cooked rice with the seasoning sachet and flakes that come with the Inari sushi kit. Gently mix with a spatula, being careful not to mash the rice grains, to season the sushi rice. Mix until the rice is glossy and well-coated with the seasoning.
Step 2
Finely chop the washed scallions. These will be used as a garnish, so aim for a medium-fine chop. For an extra kick, you can add a little finely chopped Korean red chili pepper.
Step 3
Dice the Spam into small, bite-sized cubes. Approximately 1cm cubes work well. You can also finely chop them for easier consumption by children.
Step 4
Squeeze out excess liquid from the well-fermented kimchi and then finely mince it. If the kimchi is very sour, you can add a little extra sugar.
Step 5
Heat a pan with 1 Tbsp of sesame oil. Add the diced Spam, minced kimchi, and 1/2 Tbsp of sugar. Adjust the sugar quantity based on the saltiness of your kimchi.
Step 6
Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally to prevent burning, until the ingredients are well combined and fragrant. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until the Spam’s fat melds with the kimchi, creating a savory and spicy mixture.
Step 7
Gently blanch the square fried tofu pouches in hot water or simmer them in boiling water for about 1 minute, then squeeze out the excess liquid to make them softer. Carefully open the pouch and fill it with the seasoned sushi rice, about two-thirds full. Avoid overfilling, as it will make it difficult to add the topping.
Step 8
Generously top each stuffed tofu pouch with the cooked Spam and kimchi mixture. Pile it high for a more appealing presentation.
Step 9
Finally, garnish with the chopped scallions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for a delicious finish. Your Savory and Spicy Spam Kimchi Inari Sushi are ready to be enjoyed!
