Main Ingredients
  • 3 handfuls of fresh soybean sprouts (approx. 150g)
  • Pinch of salt (for seasoning)

Flavorful Seasoning
  • 1 Tbsp minced onion (adds sweetness and depth!)
  • 1.5 Tbsp soy sauce (for umami)
  • 0.5 tsp ground toasted sesame seeds (for nutty aroma)
  • 1 tsp reserved soybean sprout boiling water (for a tender texture)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil (for finishing fragrance)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

In a pot, place the washed soybean sprouts. Add 4 cups of water and 1 teaspoon of salt. This step helps to remove any unpleasant odor from the sprouts and seasons them lightly.

Step 2

Cover the pot and bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for 5 minutes. After turning off the heat, let it sit, covered, for another 1 minute. This steaming process ensures the sprouts are crisp yet tender. Avoid opening the lid frequently while cooking.

Step 3

Don’t discard all the boiling water; reserve about 1 teaspoon of it. This reserved water will help create a moist and not-too-dry seasoned dish. Drain the soybean sprouts thoroughly in a colander and let them cool down to lukewarm. Stirring them while hot can make them mushy.

Step 4

In a mixing bowl, combine all the seasoning ingredients: minced onion, soy sauce, ground sesame seeds, the reserved soybean sprout water (1 tsp), and sesame oil. Mix well to create a delicious dressing.

Step 5

Add the cooled soybean sprouts to the seasoning mixture. Gently toss and mix them with your hands, like ‘jumbled-jumbled’ (jumbled-jumbled means gently mixing), to avoid crushing the sprouts and maintain their shape. Taste and adjust the seasoning with a pinch more salt if needed.

Step 6

Garnish with finely chopped green onions (optional) and more toasted sesame seeds for a beautiful finish. Your fragrant and nutty seasoned soybean sprouts are ready to be enjoyed!
