Main Ingredients- 4 sheets of well-fermented aged kimchi
- 1 small can of tuna
- 1 bowl of warm rice
Seasoning & Extras- 1.5 Tbsp mayonnaise
- Sesame oil to taste
- A pinch of sesame seeds (for garnish)
- 1.5 Tbsp mayonnaise
- Sesame oil to taste
- A pinch of sesame seeds (for garnish)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, lightly rinse the aged kimchi under running water. If your kimchi is very salty, you can soak it in cold water for about 10-20 minutes to reduce the saltiness, which will enhance the flavor.
Step 2
After rinsing, squeeze out as much water as possible from the kimchi with your hands. Excess water can make the rice soggy, so squeezing thoroughly is crucial.
Step 3
Drain the oil completely from the small can of tuna. In a bowl, combine the drained tuna with 1.5 tablespoons of mayonnaise and mix well to create a creamy tuna mayo filling.
Step 4
Now, it’s time to prepare the kimchi base. Take two sheets of the squeezed aged kimchi and lay them flat, much like you would prepare sushi nori. For a neater roll, position the leaves and stems of the kimchi sheets in opposite directions.
Step 5
In a separate bowl, season the warm rice with a drizzle of sesame oil and a pinch of sesame seeds. Gently mix with a spatula until the rice is well-coated and slightly fluffy.
Step 6
Spread the seasoned rice thinly over the prepared aged kimchi sheets. Place the tuna mayo filling in a line down the center of the rice. Be careful not to make the rice layer too thick, as this can make rolling difficult.
Step 7
Carefully lift the edges of the aged kimchi and roll it tightly, ensuring the rice and filling don’t spill out. Press firmly as you roll, similar to making a kimbap roll. For an extra touch of flavor and shine, brush the outside of the finished roll with a little sesame oil. Slice into bite-sized pieces and enjoy!
