Perfect Meal Replacement! A Delicious Black Sesame & Konjac Tomato Juice with Great Texture and Nutrition

Satisfying & Healthy: Black Sesame & Konjac Tomato Diet Juice

Introducing the ‘Black Sesame & Konjac Tomato Diet Juice,’ a perfect healthy meal replacement for your busy lifestyle. This juice is packed with finely chopped konjac, offering a delightful chewy texture similar to tapioca pearls in bubble tea. When you’re on a diet, chewy foods can be especially satisfying. Adding chopped konjac to tomato juice, misugaru (Korean multigrain powder drink), or other beverages makes for an excellent diet meal. Particularly, the lycopene in tomatoes, a fruit and vegetable, pairs wonderfully with fats, and when combined with black sesame (heugimja) – often used medicinally for boosting energy – it creates an exceptionally beneficial diet food. The konjac also provides a feeling of fullness, making this a truly satisfying diet juice.

Main Ingredients

  • 1 Tomato
  • 2/3 cup Water
  • Konjac (appropriate amount, about 1/2 cup by volume)

Seasoning & Others

  • 2 tsp Black Sesame Seeds (Heugimja)
  • 5 Tbsp Vinegar (for removing konjac’s odor)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, remove the konjac from its packaging and rinse it thoroughly under running water to drain any excess liquid.

Step 1

Step 2

To eliminate the konjac’s characteristic slightly fishy smell, using vinegar is highly effective. Boiling the konjac with vinegar will significantly reduce its odor.

Step 2

Step 3

Bring water to a boil in a pot. Add the prepared konjac and 5 tablespoons of vinegar, and blanch for about 1-2 minutes. You don’t need to boil it vigorously.

Step 3

Step 4

After blanching, rinse the konjac once more under cold water to cool it down and ensure it’s clean.

Step 4

Step 5

Drain the konjac completely. Prepared blanched konjac like this is very versatile – it can be used in cold salads (naengchae), mixed rice dishes, or as the ‘pearls’ in today’s juice, making it a highly useful ingredient.

Step 5

Step 6

Prepare the konjac according to your preference for texture. I used udon-shaped konjac and chopped it into bite-sized pieces. If you buy konjac that’s already shaped like rice grains, you can skip the chopping step and use it directly after blanching, which is more convenient.

Step 6

Step 7

Now it’s time to make the juice. Place your prepared chopped konjac (or rice-grain shaped konjac) into a serving bowl or blender cup.

Step 7

Step 8

Add 1 fresh tomato and 2/3 cup of water. Blend until smooth. For a smoother texture, you can remove the tomato seeds before blending.

Step 8

Step 9

Pour the smoothly blended juice into a serving cup.

Step 9

Step 10

Finally, sprinkle 2 teaspoons of black sesame seeds (heugimja) on top for garnish. Enjoy your healthy meal replacement diet juice, complete with satisfying fullness and a delightful chewiness!
