Create a Nostalgic Pork Neck Steak Experience at Home
I had some pork neck left at home and decided to recreate the beloved ‘Seo-ga-and-Cook’ style steak I used to frequent! It turned out surprisingly simple yet incredibly delicious. This recipe is perfect for a special occasion or just to elevate an everyday meal. ❤️
Main Ingredients- 500g Pork Neck (preferably cut thick)
- 1/2 Onion (thinly sliced)
- 1 Egg (for a perfect sunny-side up)
- 1 Tbsp Butter
Flavorful Sauce- 1 Tbsp Oyster Sauce (for umami depth)
- 1 Tbsp Steak Sauce (or 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce if unavailable)
- 1 Tbsp Oligosaccharide (for a glossy sheen and mild sweetness)
- 0.5 Tbsp Minced Garlic (enhances the aroma)
- Pinch of Salt (for seasoning)
- Pinch of Black Pepper (for seasoning)
- 1 Tbsp Water (to adjust sauce consistency)
- 1 Tbsp Oyster Sauce (for umami depth)
- 1 Tbsp Steak Sauce (or 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce if unavailable)
- 1 Tbsp Oligosaccharide (for a glossy sheen and mild sweetness)
- 0.5 Tbsp Minced Garlic (enhances the aroma)
- Pinch of Salt (for seasoning)
- Pinch of Black Pepper (for seasoning)
- 1 Tbsp Water (to adjust sauce consistency)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Pat the thick-cut pork neck slices dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture; this is key for a clean flavor. Season both sides generously with salt and black pepper.
Step 2
In a small bowl, combine all the sauce ingredients: oyster sauce, steak sauce (or soy sauce), oligosaccharide, minced garlic, and water. Whisk well until thoroughly mixed. This blend creates a deeply satisfying sauce.
Step 3
Peel and thinly slice the half onion. For a more varied dish, feel free to add other vegetables like sliced mushrooms or bell peppers.
Step 4
Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat and sear the seasoned pork neck. Cook until both sides are beautifully browned and caramelized. This step locks in the juices for a tender steak.
Step 5
Remove the seared pork neck from the pan and set aside. Add a splash of olive oil to the pan (using the pork fat for extra flavor) and sauté the sliced onions until they become translucent and tender.
Step 6
Once the onions are softened, add the butter to the pan and let it melt, coating the onions. The butter will add a wonderful richness and aroma.
Step 7
Pour the prepared sauce into the pan with the onions and butter. Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the sauce gently simmer.
Step 8
Return the seared pork neck to the pan. Continuously flip the steak gently to coat it evenly with the sauce. Let it simmer for about 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly and clings beautifully to the meat, being careful not to burn it.
Step 9
To serve, place the glazed pork neck steak on a plate. Top with a perfectly fried sunny-side-up egg and serve alongside a fresh green salad for a complete and delightful ‘Seo-ga-and-Cook’ style pork neck steak meal. Enjoy!
