Ingredients
  • 1 pack Oyster mushrooms
  • 1/2 stalk Green onion
  • 1 Red chili pepper

Seasoning
  • 1 Tbsp Perilla seed powder
  • 1 Tbsp Perilla oil
  • 1/3 Tbsp Minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp Soy sauce
  • A pinch of Sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, rinse the oyster mushrooms thoroughly and drain any excess water. Trim off the tough ends of the mushroom stems and then tear the mushrooms into bite-sized pieces by hand. This preparation helps the mushrooms absorb the seasoning better and improves their texture.

Step 2

Heat 1 tablespoon of perilla oil in a pot over medium-low heat. Add the prepared oyster mushrooms and cover with a lid. Let them cook for about 3-5 minutes until the mushrooms wilt and release their moisture. This gentle cooking method enhances the mushrooms’ natural flavor.

Step 3

While the mushrooms are cooking, finely chop the green onion. Also, remove the seeds from the red chili pepper and slice it thinly to add a pop of color to the dish. If you prefer a bit of heat, you can use a green chili pepper instead.

Step 4

Once the mushrooms have softened, remove the lid. Add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1/3 tablespoon of minced garlic, the chopped green onion, and the sliced red chili pepper to the pot. Stir everything together well over medium-high heat for about 1-2 minutes until the ingredients are evenly combined and lightly stir-fried.

Step 5

Finally, add 1 tablespoon of perilla seed powder and stir gently to combine. Your delicious stir-fried mushrooms with perilla powder are now ready! It’s important not to overcook the mushrooms after adding the perilla powder to preserve its rich, nutty flavor.

Step 6

Transfer the stir-fried mushrooms to a serving dish and sprinkle with a pinch of sesame seeds for garnish. It’s incredibly satisfying to make such a delicious side dish with simple, inexpensive ingredients! Each bite is an explosion of nutty flavor from the perilla oil and powder, making it a perfect accompaniment to rice, reminiscent of the banchan served in Korean fine dining restaurants. Enjoy this authentic taste at home with ease!
