Ingredients
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp water
  • 1.5 cups milk (approx. 300ml)
  • 3 Tbsp misutgaru (roasted grain powder, approx. 30g)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare your ingredients for the brown sugar misutgaru. You’ll need 3 tablespoons of misutgaru and 1.5 cups (about 300ml) of milk. This recipe makes one serving. If you wish to make a larger batch, simply scale up all the ingredient quantities proportionally.

Step 2

In your serving cup, add the 3 tablespoons of misutgaru. Pour in just a small amount of the milk first and stir it to create a smooth paste without any lumps. This step is crucial to prevent the misutgaru from clumping when you add the rest of the milk. Once you have a smooth paste, gradually add the remaining milk and stir well.

Step 3

To ensure the misutgaru is perfectly smooth and lump-free, using a whisk (hand frother) is highly recommended. It makes mixing much easier and results in a silkier texture compared to just using a spoon. You’ll find it mixes beautifully with this tool.

Step 4

Now, let’s prepare the ingredients for the brown sugar syrup. You’ll need 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and 1 tablespoon of water. Have these ready in a small saucepan or pot.

Step 5

Place the brown sugar and water in the small saucepan over low heat. Stir gently as it begins to heat. Once the sugar has dissolved and the mixture starts to simmer, keep the heat very low to prevent burning.

Step 6

Continue to simmer the mixture gently until it thickens slightly, resembling a light caramel sauce. Be careful not to overcook it, as it can become too hard when cooled. Once it reaches a slightly syrupy consistency, remove it from the heat.

Step 7

The freshly made brown sugar syrup will be hot, so let it cool down slightly for a moment. Then, pour the slightly cooled syrup into the cup containing the misutgaru and milk mixture. To make it visually appealing, you can tilt the cup and let the syrup drizzle down the sides, creating beautiful swirls. This makes the drink look extra special.

Step 8

Finally, pour the misutgaru and milk mixture into the cup, over the brown sugar syrup. Your delicious brown sugar misutgaru is now ready! The syrup and the misutgaru milk will naturally blend, creating lovely layers of color. Enjoy it immediately, or add some ice for a refreshing chilled beverage.
