Rich Homemade Caramel Milk Jam
Use Up Leftover Cream! Caramel Milk Jam & Milk Jam Butter Bread Recipe
Do you often find yourself with leftover heavy cream after opening a carton? What do you usually make with it? How about trying this delightful caramel-scented milk jam? It’s perfect for spreading on freshly toasted bread!
Caramel Milk Jam Ingredients
- 2 cups Milk
- 1 cup Heavy Cream
- 1 cup Organic Sugar (raw cane sugar recommended)
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 Tbsp Caramel Syrup
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the base ingredients for your milk jam. This recipe uses a ratio of 2 cups of milk, 1 cup of heavy cream, and 1 cup of organic sugar. Feel free to adjust this ratio based on the ingredients you have available at home; consider this a guideline.
Step 2
Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan and begin to simmer over low heat. It’s advisable to use a pot that is significantly larger than the volume of your ingredients to prevent boiling over. Stir frequently to ensure the mixture doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pot.
Step 3
While the jam is simmering, prepare your jars for storage. Sterilize them by filling them with hot (boiling) water and rinsing a couple of times. Don’t forget to sterilize the lids by giving them a ‘hot water shower’ as well.
Step 4
After sterilizing, stand the jars upright to dry. This method allows them to dry more quickly and hygienically compared to inverting them.
Step 5
Once the mixture has reduced by about half, stir in the vanilla extract and caramel syrup for an enhanced flavor and aroma. Mix well.
Step 6
Get creative with variations! For a coffee-infused jam, add some instant coffee powder. For an elegant twist, steep some Earl Grey tea leaves and add the infused liquid instead of plain water. Of course, the jam is wonderfully delicious with just the basic ingredients.
Step 7
Continue simmering for approximately 30 minutes, or until the jam thickens to a rich, caramel-like consistency and color. The sweet caramel aroma that fills your kitchen will be absolutely delightful.
Step 8
Carefully ladle the finished milk jam into your sterilized jars. This batch should yield about 300 grams of delicious jam.
Step 9
As the jam cools, it will thicken further and develop an even richer caramel flavor, truly resembling pure caramel itself.
Step 10
For a simple yet delicious treat, make caramel milk jam butter bread. Toast slices of bread until golden brown. Spread butter on one side and a generous layer of your homemade caramel milk jam on the other.
Step 11
If you have fresh strawberries, add them for a burst of freshness that complements the jam beautifully. Slice the sandwich in half and enjoy it while it’s warm. (I made this using the last slice of bread I had.)
