Rice Paper “Gopchang” Fry

Deceptively Delicious: Rice Paper “Gopchang” – A Perfect Diet Food That Will Fool 100%!

Rice Paper

Today, I’ve prepared a fun and intriguing dish for you: a “fake gopchang” made with rice paper! This is a fantastic option if you’re on a diet or want to play a culinary prank on your friends. At first glance, doesn’t it look remarkably similar to real beef gopchang (intestines)? I can’t honestly guarantee the taste will be identical, but the appearance alone is enough to fool anyone! With just soy milk residue and rice paper, anyone can easily make this.

Ingredients

  • 8 sheets of rice paper
  • 300g soy milk residue (kongbiji)
  • 3 pinches of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine 300g of soy milk residue (kongbiji) with 3 pinches of salt, 1 Tbsp of minced garlic, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix thoroughly with your hands, ensuring the ingredients are well incorporated and the mixture is cohesive. Break up any large clumps of the kongbiji.

Step 1

Step 2

Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add cooking oil. Add the seasoned soy milk residue mixture and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes. Cook until it becomes slightly crumbly and some of the moisture has evaporated, resembling a stir-fried filling.

Step 2

Step 3

Prepare a shallow dish of warm water. Briefly dip one sheet of rice paper into the warm water until it becomes pliable, but not overly soggy. Lay the softened rice paper flat. Place a portion of the stir-fried soy milk residue mixture in a line along one edge of the rice paper. Carefully roll it up tightly, like you would a spring roll or burrito, ensuring the filling is enclosed. Repeat with the remaining rice paper and filling.

Step 3

Step 4

Wipe the frying pan clean or use a new one, heat it over medium heat again, and add a little more cooking oil. Carefully place the rolled “gopchang” into the hot pan. Fry them, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and slightly crispy on all sides, similar to how real gopchang is grilled.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the rice paper “gopchang” is nicely browned and cooked, you can add some vegetables (like sliced onions, mushrooms, or bell peppers) to the pan and stir-fry them alongside. This adds extra flavor, texture, and visual appeal. Cook the vegetables until they are tender-crisp.
