Refreshing Watermelon
The Super Easy and Neat Way to Cut a Watermelon
Watermelon, the quintessential summer fruit, is loved for its cool and sweet taste! Its high water content makes it excellent for quenching thirst and is said to be effective in reducing swelling due to its diuretic properties. It’s also known to be a healthy fruit, aiding blood circulation and rich in antioxidants. The rind is even said to help soothe minor skin burns from sun exposure by rubbing it on the affected area. Today, I’ll guide you through a detailed method for cutting watermelon neatly and conveniently.
Essential Ingredients- 1 whole fresh watermelon
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the watermelon thoroughly under clean water. It’s important to remove any dirt or contaminants that might be on the rind. Then, cut off both ends of the watermelon, removing a generous portion to expose plenty of the red flesh. This step will help stabilize the watermelon for the following cuts.
Step 2
Now, lay the watermelon on its side. Stand it up so that the cut surface, where the red flesh is visible, faces upwards. Ensure the watermelon is stable and won’t roll. If needed, you can lean it against the edge of your cutting board or counter for extra support.
Step 3
With the watermelon standing upright, cut it into rectangular pieces of your desired size. Imagine cutting a loaf of bread; press the knife down from top to bottom, cutting slowly. It’s crucial to hold the watermelon firmly to prevent it from wobbling while you cut.
Step 4
Take the rectangular watermelon chunks and cut them in half again. This will divide them into more manageable pieces for eating. Be careful not to let the knife slip and cut slowly and steadily.
Step 5
Flip the pieces you just cut and cut them in half once more. At this stage, the watermelon will be divided into even smaller and easier-to-handle portions. Always be mindful of safety when using a knife throughout the process.
Step 6
Now, place the watermelon pieces so that the rind side is facing upwards. This orientation makes it easier to cut uniformly against the rind. Keep the rind flat on the cutting surface to prevent slipping.
Step 7
With the rind facing up, slice the watermelon into pieces of consistent thickness. You can cut them to your preferred size, but aiming for uniform thickness, not too thin or too thick, will make them look appealing and easy to eat. Hold the knife vertically and make cuts at regular intervals.
Step 8
Voila! The watermelon is now neatly cut, with the rind separated from the flesh, making it perfectly ready to eat. Enjoy this refreshing treat! This cutting method also prevents juice from dripping everywhere, making cleanup much easier!
