- 1 Tbsp vinegar (approx. 10ml)
- 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic (approx. 2.5g)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil (approx. 15ml)
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds (approx. 5g)
- 1.5 Tbsp soy sauce (approx. 23ml)
- 2 Tbsp Korean chili flakes (gochugaru) (approx. 15g)
- 0.5 Tbsp fish sauce (anchovy or sand lance) (approx. 7.5ml)
- 1 Tbsp sugar (approx. 10g)
- 1 Tbsp vinegar (approx. 10ml)
- 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic (approx. 2.5g)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil (approx. 15ml)
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds (approx. 5g)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the tomatoes thoroughly. If using large, firm tomatoes, cut them into quarters or sixths into bite-sized pieces. If using cherry tomatoes, halve them. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of salt over the cut tomatoes and let them sit for 10 minutes to lightly salt. This process draws out excess moisture, helping the tomatoes absorb the dressing better and preventing them from becoming too mushy. After salting, gently pat them dry with paper towels.
Step 2
Now, let’s prepare the delicious dressing. In a bowl, combine 1.5 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of chili flakes (gochugaru), 0.5 tablespoon of fish sauce, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 tablespoon of vinegar, and 0.5 tablespoon of minced garlic. Mix everything well until the sugar and vinegar are dissolved.
Step 3
Take about half of the prepared dressing (approximately 2 tablespoons) and add it to the salted tomatoes. Gently toss to coat, being careful not to mash the tomatoes. Let them marinate for a short while; this will allow the tomatoes to absorb the flavors, making them even more delicious.
Step 4
Clean the chives and pat them dry. Cut them into lengths of about 3-4 cm. Add the remaining dressing to the cut chives and lightly mix. The key is to gently mix them just enough to slightly wilt the chives. Finally, place the dressed chives on top of the tomatoes. Gently combine them, allowing the chives to wrap around the tomatoes to create a visually appealing salad. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds for an extra nutty aroma and even more delightful flavor. Your refreshing Tomato and Chive Salad is ready to enjoy!
