Refreshing Highball Recipe to Enjoy at Home
Transforming Even Average Whiskey into Delicious Highballs
Discover how to easily craft sophisticated highballs right in your own home. Perfect for special occasions or as a delightful everyday treat.
Ingredients- Whiskey (your preferred type)
- Ice (enough to fill the glass)
- Soda water (chilled)
- Fruit syrup or preserve (e.g., yuzu, lemon)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Initially, I found my first attempt at a highball disappointing, with the Scotch whiskey tasting too strong and the lemon juice overly sour. I even considered buying Suntory whiskey, known for its highball fame, but decided to try making it again. You can absolutely make delicious highballs at home too!
Step 2
Fill your highball glass generously to the brim with ice. Next, pour in about 1/5 of whiskey. Then, add chilled soda water to fill about 4/5 of the glass. Finally, add 2 heaping teaspoons of fruit syrup.
Step 3
You don’t have to use yuzu syrup; feel free to experiment with other fruit syrups like lemon or grapefruit for different flavors. If you prefer a sweeter drink, add a bit more fruit syrup. The secret to a great highball is plenty of fresh ice. Filling the glass completely with ice is truly the key to a perfect highball, so don’t skimp!
