We use an easy-to-follow chewy glutinous donut mix for the dough, making it perfect for using up a whole box of sweet potatoes or potatoes. This is a truly worthwhile snack recipe that can even serve as a hearty meal. You’ll love making these delightful treats that satisfy both hunger and cravings!

Dough Base Ingredients

  • 1 package glutinous donut mix
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 paper cup milk (approx. 180ml)
  • 7 Tbsp cooking oil

Potato Bread Filling Ingredients

  • 2 medium potatoes
  • 1 knob butter (approx. 10g)
  • 5 Tbsp mayonnaise
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper

Potato Bread Coating Ingredients (Seasoning)

  • 3 Tbsp ground black sesame seeds
  • 1/2 paper cup roasted soybean flour (konggaru)

Sweet Potato Bread Filling Ingredients

  • 10 small sweet potatoes
  • 1 knob butter (approx. 10g)
  • 2 Tbsp oligosaccharide
  • 5 Tbsp milk
  • Pinch of salt

Sweet Potato Bread Coating Ingredients (Seasoning)

  • 1/2 paper cup purple sweet potato powder

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Let’s start by making the dough! In a bowl, whisk together 2 eggs, 1 paper cup of milk, and 7 Tbsp of cooking oil until well combined. Then, add 1 package of glutinous donut mix and mix until a smooth dough forms with no dry flour visible. Let the dough rest for a while.

Now, we’ll cook the potatoes and sweet potatoes. Peel the 2 potatoes and 10 sweet potatoes and cut them into large cubes. Place the cubed potatoes and sweet potatoes in separate microwave-safe bowls. Microwave for 5-7 minutes until tender. They should be easily pierced with a fork.

While still hot, transfer the cooked potatoes and sweet potatoes into separate bowls. For the potato filling, add 1 knob of butter, 5 Tbsp of mayonnaise, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of black pepper. Mash and mix everything together until smooth. For the sweet potato filling, add 1 knob of butter, 2 Tbsp of oligosaccharide, 5 Tbsp of milk, and a pinch of salt. Mash and mix until smooth and creamy. Ensure there are no lumps in either filling.

Time to make the seasoning for the outside of the potato bread! In a small bowl, combine 3 Tbsp of ground black sesame seeds and 1/2 paper cup of roasted soybean flour. Mix well. This will give your potato bread a delicious nutty flavor!

Take the rested dough and divide it in half. Flatten each piece of dough into a disc. Place a generous portion of the potato filling or sweet potato filling in the center of each disc. Carefully gather the edges of the dough to enclose the filling completely, making sure it’s sealed tightly. You can shape them into round or oval buns as you prefer.

Now, let’s coat the shaped buns with the seasonings. Roll the buns filled with potato filling in the prepared black sesame and soybean flour mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated on all sides. Roll the buns filled with sweet potato filling in the purple sweet potato powder for a beautiful color. Gently press the seasoning onto the dough to help it adhere well.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the seasoned buns on the sheet, leaving some space between them. Using a chopstick, gently press 2-3 times on the top of each bun to create indentations. This helps the buns bake evenly and achieve a nice shape.

All that’s left is to bake them! Place the buns in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) and bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown. Once baked, remove the potato bread and sweet potato bread from the oven, let them cool slightly, and then enjoy! You’ll have a wonderfully chewy on the outside and moist on the inside, incredibly ‘real’ tasting bread!
