Core Ingredients
- Soft Tofu (Sundubu) 1 pack (350g)
- Tuna Chili (Gochu Tuna) 1 can (150g)
- Water 1 cup (200ml)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Here are the essential ingredients for our quick and flavorful stew. While the red chili is optional, we highly recommend adding 1 to 2 green chilies for a delightful spicy kick that perfectly complements the dish, giving it that authentic Korean flavor.
Step 2
Finely chop the scallions and the chilies (red and green, if using). For the soft tofu, you can either add the whole block directly into the pot or break it into 2-3 large pieces with a spoon. No need for precise cutting; simple is best!
Step 3
Lightly grease a small pot with a little cooking oil. Add the minced garlic and sauté over medium-low heat until fragrant. This gentle sautéing is key to releasing the aromatic garlic flavor without burning it.
Step 4
Once the garlic is fragrant, add the entire can of tuna chili, including the oil. Stir and cook, adjusting the heat as needed to prevent sticking, allowing the tuna to develop its flavor.
Step 5
Add a heaping tablespoon of gochugaru (Korean chili flakes). Continue to stir and cook for about a minute, letting the chili flakes bloom in the tuna oil. This step builds a rich, spicy foundation for the stew.
Step 6
Gently add the prepared soft tofu directly into the pot. The creamy texture of the tofu will melt into the stew, creating a wonderfully smooth and satisfying consistency.
Step 7
Pour in 1 cup (200ml) of water. Season with 1 tablespoon of fish sauce or soy sauce to taste – add more if needed. Finish with a pinch of black pepper for added aroma and depth.
Step 8
Bring the stew to a rolling boil. Once boiling, add the chopped scallions and chilies. Finally, crack the egg directly into the bubbling stew. Since all the ingredients are quick-cooking, you can serve this delicious and warming Sundubu Jjigae immediately. Enjoy your comforting meal!
