Pie Ingredients
  • 2 Apples
  • 8 slices White Bread
  • 20g Butter
  • 1 Tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Honey
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon Powder

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, core the apples and chop them into small, uniform pieces (about 1cm). You can leave the skin on for added texture and nutrients. Place the chopped apples into a saucepan.

Step 2

Add the butter (20g) to the saucepan with the apples. Cook over low heat, stirring gently with a spatula, until the apples begin to soften and release their juices. The butter will add a rich flavor.

Step 3

Once the apples have released some moisture, stir in the brown sugar (1 Tbsp) and honey (1 Tbsp). Continue to cook and stir with the spatula until the sugar and honey have dissolved and coated the apples, creating a sweet glaze.

Step 4

Bring the apple mixture to a gentle simmer. Continue cooking until most of the liquid has evaporated and the mixture has thickened. Stir in the cinnamon powder (1/2 tsp) and mix well. Remove from heat. The cinnamon will enhance the apple’s natural sweetness and add a warm spice note.

Step 5

Trim the crusts off each slice of white bread. Then, use a rolling pin to flatten each slice as thinly as possible. Rolling them thin will make them easier to fold and prevent tearing.

Step 6

Lightly score the top surface of each flattened bread slice with a knife, making 2-3 shallow cuts. These cuts will allow steam to escape during baking, ensuring a crispier crust.

Step 7

Whisk one egg in a small bowl. Using a pastry brush, lightly coat the four edges of each flattened bread slice with the egg wash. This acts as a ‘glue’ to seal the pie. Spoon a portion of the cooked apple filling onto one half of the bread. Fold the other half over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges firmly with your fingers to seal the filling inside.

Step 8

Using a fork, press along the sealed edges of each pie, creating a decorative crimped pattern, similar to stitching. This further secures the filling and gives your pies a professional look.

Step 9

Brush the tops of the assembled pies with the remaining egg wash for a golden sheen. Place the pies into a preheated oven and bake at 190°C (375°F) for about 15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and crisp. (If you don’t have an oven, you can use an air fryer. Set it to 190°C (375°F) and air fry for about 7 minutes, adjusting the time as needed based on your appliance.)
