Main Ingredients- 6 slices of bread
- 1/4 head of cabbage (about 150g)
- 3 eggs
- A little butter or margarine
- A pinch of salt
- 3 Tbsp sugar (or adjust to taste)
- 3 slices of cheese
Special Sauce- 2 Tbsp honey mustard
- 3 Tbsp ketchup
- Sweetened condensed milk spread or jam, as desired
- 2 Tbsp honey mustard
- 3 Tbsp ketchup
- Sweetened condensed milk spread or jam, as desired
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare 1/4 of the cabbage and shred it as thinly as possible. Rinsing the shredded cabbage briefly in cold water and draining it can help maintain its crispness.
Step 2
In a large bowl, crack the 3 eggs and mix them with the shredded cabbage and a pinch of salt. Gently mix to ensure the cabbage is well coated with the egg mixture.
Step 3
This mixture will become the base for your delicious cabbage toast. Feel free to add finely chopped onion, carrot, ham, or bacon to enhance the flavor and texture.
Step 4
Melt a little butter or margarine in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Place the bread slices on the pan and toast them slowly until golden brown and crispy on both sides. Toasting slowly ensures a delicious foundation without burning.
Step 5
Set the toasted bread aside. Lightly grease the same frying pan with cooking oil. Divide the cabbage-egg mixture into three portions and pour them into the pan. Shape them into flat patties and cook until golden brown on both sides. The cabbage will soften and release a sweet aroma as it cooks.
Step 6
While the cabbage patties are cooking, spread your chosen sauces on the toasted bread. On one side, mix and spread ketchup and honey mustard. On the other side, spread sweetened condensed milk spread or jam as you prefer. This combination adds a delightful sweet and tangy flavor.
Step 7
Before placing the cabbage mixture, sprinkle a little sugar if you desire extra sweetness. If the sweetened condensed milk spread is already very sweet, you can adjust or omit the sugar. Place the cooked cabbage patties nicely on top of the bread.
Step 8
Top the cabbage mixture with a slice of cheese, allowing it to melt. If you prepared ham or bacon, place it on top of the cheese. (Ham was omitted in this particular recipe.)
Step 9
Finally, place another slice of bread on top to complete your cabbage toast. Enjoy your warm, crispy on the outside, and moist on the inside creation!
