- Frozen shrimp: 5-7 pieces
- Vienna sausages: 5-7 pieces
- Broccoli: a small amount (blanching recommended)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash and peel the onion, then thinly slice it. This will add a deep flavor to your curry. Prepare your desired toppings, such as shrimp, sausages, and broccoli. For the broccoli, a quick blanch in boiling water will help retain its vibrant color and make it tender. Any type of curry powder works, but if you’re using solid curry blocks, about 1 block per serving is standard. For powdered curry, measure out about 4-5 tablespoons.
Step 2
Now, let’s prepare the liquid base for your creamy curry. Measure out 100ml of water and 100ml of milk. The ratio of water to milk should be 1:1. Adding milk will give your curry a smoother, more refined taste.
Step 3
If you’re using solid curry blocks, this step can significantly enhance the curry’s flavor. Since solid curry is hard, carefully cut it into small pieces, about 1cm in size, using a knife. Be cautious to avoid slipping.
Step 4
Place the chopped solid curry pieces into a small bowl. Add 2-3 tablespoons of water and stir thoroughly until completely dissolved without any lumps. This ensures the curry mixes smoothly into the sauce.
Step 5
Melt 1 generous tablespoon of butter in a heated pan. The butter will add a rich depth of flavor to your curry.
Step 6
Once the butter is melted, add all the thinly sliced onions to the pan. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper to balance the flavors.
Step 7
It’s time to sauté the onions until they’re fragrant. To prevent burning, cook over medium heat instead of high. Stir the onions gently with a spatula to prevent them from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
Step 8
Continue to sauté the onions until they become translucent and golden brown, releasing their sweet aroma. Sautéed onions add a deep sweetness and rich flavor to the curry.
Step 9
Once the onions are sufficiently sautéed, it’s time to add the curry powder. Sprinkle the curry powder evenly over the onions.
Step 10
Stir-fry the curry powder with the onions for about 30 seconds. This process helps to cook out any raw taste from the curry powder and develops a more savory and complex flavor.
Step 11
Now, pour in the water and milk. Add the 100ml of water and 100ml of milk you prepared. Stir continuously with a spatula as it boils to ensure there are no lumps and everything is well combined. It’s important to keep stirring to prevent the curry from sticking to the bottom.
Step 12
Once the curry begins to simmer gently, reduce the heat to medium-low and let it thicken to your desired consistency. If it’s too thin, simmer longer; if it’s too thick, add a little more water or milk to adjust. Your delicious curry base is now ready!
Step 13
Now, let’s cook the prepared toppings to perfection and serve them with the curry. Place the frozen shrimp, broccoli, and Vienna sausages in a pan, sprinkle with a little salt and pepper, and sauté until nicely cooked. For an extra treat, you can also top your curry with crispy fried pork cutlet or tempura shrimp – they make a fantastic combination!
Step 14
Serve a generous portion of warm rice on a plate. Artfully arrange the homemade curry and your prepared toppings on top. Your special Japanese curry is complete. Enjoy your delicious meal!
