Hello everyone! Today, we’re going to make a super simple and delicious speedy side dish: ‘Eomuk Bokkeum’ (Stir-Fried Fish Cakes). It’s perfect as a side for rice or even for lunchboxes!
Main Ingredients- 1 package of flat fish cakes (eomuk, approx. 300g)
- 1/2 onion
Seasoning- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup (or oligodang)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- A pinch of sesame seeds
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup (or oligodang)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- A pinch of sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the onion. Peel it and slice it into strips about 1cm thick. Avoid slicing too thinly, as it might break apart during stir-frying. Aim for a moderate thickness.
Step 2
Now, let’s cut the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces. First, cut each flat fish cake lengthwise into two strips, then cut those strips crosswise into about 8 pieces. Feel free to adjust the size to your preference.
Step 3
Now, we’ll make the delicious seasoning for our stir-fried fish cakes in advance. In a small bowl, combine 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp corn syrup, 1 tsp sesame oil, 1 tsp minced garlic, and a pinch of sesame seeds for nutty flavor. Mix well.
Step 4
Heat a pan over medium heat and add a little cooking oil. First, add the sliced onions and stir-fry them until they become slightly golden and translucent, bringing out their natural sweetness. Once the onions are somewhat cooked, add the prepared fish cakes and stir-fry them together.
Step 5
Finally, pour the pre-mixed sauce into the pan. Stir and coat all the ingredients evenly with the sauce, as if you’re tossing them. Continue to stir-fry over medium-low heat for about 1-2 minutes, ensuring the sauce doesn’t burn. Your delicious stir-fried fish cakes are now complete!
