Ingredients
- Pink sausage 1 span (approx. 10-12cm length)
- Eggs 3
- Cooking wine (Mirin or similar) 1 Tbsp
- Salt 2 pinches
- Vegetable oil for frying
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Slice the pink sausage into pieces about 1cm thick. Then, use a knife, vegetable cutter, or your favorite shaped cookie cutter to press into the center of each slice, creating a decorative shape. (Don’t worry if you don’t have cutters!)
Step 2
We’re going to make two versions today! We’ll use both the shapes we cut out and the remaining sausage pieces. Adding different shapes makes it more fun.
Step 3
In a bowl, crack 3 eggs. Add 1 tablespoon of cooking wine (to remove any eggy smell) and 2 pinches of salt. Whisk thoroughly to combine and create the egg batter. For an extra smooth texture, you can strain the batter through a sieve.
Step 4
Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium heat. Pour in about 4/5 of the prepared egg batter, tilting the pan gently so it spreads thinly and evenly. (We’ll use the remaining batter to fill the cut-out shapes.)
Step 5
Keep the heat on low! Carefully arrange the shaped pink sausages (like flowers or circles) and the remaining sausage pieces onto the egg batter. First, place them in a row horizontally, then add another row vertically. This creates a beautiful pattern.
Step 6
Let the egg batter cook gently over low heat. It’s important to flip it before the egg is completely set to prevent the sausages from separating.
Step 7
When the egg is slightly undercooked, carefully flip the pancake using a spatula. Continue to cook on low heat for about 1 minute after flipping. Be cautious not to cook on high heat, as it can burn easily.
Step 8
Turn off the heat and gently flip the pancake again with the spatula. This positions the sausages on top, making the presentation even more appealing.
Step 9
Transfer the finished pink sausage pancake to a nice plate. Add a few dots of ketchup in the center for a delicious and attractive presentation. Make these with care for your loved ones on a special occasion!
Step 10
(Alternative Method) Lightly oil a heated pan. Place the shaped pink sausage slices in the pan. Once the shape cutter is stable in the pan, carefully use a teaspoon to fill each shape with the reserved egg batter, only about halfway full. Cook over low heat.
Step 11
Once the egg batter starts to set slightly, carefully flip the shaped pancake using a spatula. Cook for another minute or so after flipping to ensure a nicely shaped sausage pancake without any distortion.
Step 12
Carefully transfer the completed shaped pancake onto a plate. This version adds an extra element of visual delight! Enjoy with ketchup or mayonnaise, if desired.
