  • Pork (shoulder or belly recommended) 200g
  • Steamed rice 1 bowl
  • Fresh egg yolk 1
  • Scallions or white part of green onion, a little (finely chopped)

Pork Over Rice Sauce

  • Soy sauce 1 Tbsp
  • Sugar 1 Tbsp
  • Mirin or cooking sake 1 Tbsp
  • Minced garlic 1 tsp

Cooking Instructions

First, let’s prepare the special sauce that is the key to this delicious pork over rice. In a small bowl, combine 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp sugar, 1 Tbsp mirin, and 1 tsp minced garlic. Stir well until the sugar dissolves. This sauce will add a deep flavor to the pork.

Now it’s time to cook the pork. Heat a frying pan over medium heat, then add the 200g of prepared pork. Sear it on both sides until golden brown. The pork will release some delicious fat as it cooks. If the pork pieces are too thick, you can cut them into bite-sized pieces before cooking.

When the pork is almost cooked through, add the thinly sliced onion (about 1/4 of an onion) and stir-fry them together. The onion will become slightly translucent and release its natural sweetness. Once the onion is tender, pour in all the special sauce you prepared earlier. Stir-fry quickly to ensure the sauce coats the pork and onion evenly. Be mindful of the heat to prevent the sauce from burning.

This is the final step! Place a bowl of warm, freshly steamed rice into a serving bowl. Generously spoon the saucy pork and onion mixture over the rice. For a visually appealing and delicious finish, carefully place one fresh egg yolk right in the center of the pork. Finally, sprinkle some finely chopped scallions or green onion whites on top to complete your mouthwatering pork over rice. Breaking the yolk and mixing it with the pork, rice, and sauce creates an incredibly rich and satisfying flavor!
