Plum Pickle Rice Balls Recipe
Appetizing Plum Pickle Rice Balls
Let’s make delicious rice balls using the plum pickles we prepared last year. The refreshing, sweet, and sour flavor of the plum pickles will create a delightful dish perfect as a meal or snack.
Ingredients- 8 well-fermented plum pickles
- 1 bowl of cooked rice (approx. 200g)
- Seasoned laver (gim) or crumbled seaweed flakes, as needed
- Pinch of salt (for seasoning adjustment)
- 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, lightly rinse the 8 plum pickles under running water and pat them dry. Remove the pits and finely chop them. Chopping them into small pieces ensures they mix well with the rice. If using seasoned laver (gim), crumble it finely with your hands or cut it with scissors. Crumbled seaweed flakes can also be used.
Step 2
Place 1 bowl of warm cooked rice into a mixing bowl. It’s best to let the rice cool slightly so it’s not too hot. Lightly sprinkle a pinch of salt over the rice for seasoning (adjust the salt according to the brininess of the plum pickles). Add 1/2 Tbsp of sesame oil and mix to separate the rice grains, making them fluffy. The fragrant aroma of sesame oil will enhance the rice’s flavor.
Step 3
Now, add the finely chopped plum pickles and the crumbled seasoned laver (or seaweed flakes) to the rice. Using a spatula or your hands, gently mix all the ingredients together until evenly combined with the rice. Ensure the colorful plum pickles are well distributed throughout the rice.
Step 4
Once all ingredients are thoroughly mixed, shape the rice mixture into bite-sized round balls. Lightly oiling your hands or wetting them with water can prevent the rice from sticking. Finally, sprinkle some sesame seeds on top of the finished rice balls for added nutty flavor and visual appeal. Your delicious ‘Plum Pickle Rice Balls’ are now ready to enjoy!
