Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the radish. Slice it into strips about 0.5 cm thick. It’s important to keep them slightly thick, as very thin slices can break apart easily.
Step 2
Heat 1 Tbsp of brown rice oil or cooking oil in a pan over low heat. Add 1 tsp of minced garlic and sauté until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic; the goal is to release its subtle aroma.
Step 3
Once the garlic is fragrant, add the sliced radish and stir-fry over medium heat for about 1 minute. You want the radish to become slightly translucent on the surface.
Step 4
Now it’s time to add the seasonings. Pour 20ml of water, 0.5 Tbsp of low-sodium soy sauce, and 0.5 Tbsp of sesame oil into the pan.
Step 5
Cover the pan with a lid and reduce the heat to medium-low. Let the radish cook gently until tender, which should take about 5-7 minutes. Check for tenderness by piercing with a fork; it should yield easily.
Step 6
Once the radish is tender, remove the lid and stir in 1 Tbsp of perilla seed powder. Mix gently to avoid clumps and cook for another 30 seconds to 1 minute, just enough to incorporate the nutty flavor of the perilla seeds. Avoid overcooking, as it can develop a bitter taste.
