- Steamer pot (with rack)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Hello there! Today, I’m excited to share a wonderful method for steaming cabbage that brings out its natural sweetness and nutritional value. This recipe ensures a perfectly tender and delicious outcome, loved by all ages!
Step 2
First, prepare your quartered cabbage. Using a knife, make deep ‘X’ shaped cuts into the core of the cabbage. This makes it easier to separate the leaves later and also helps the cabbage fit better into your steamer.
Step 3
Gently detach the individual leaves from the core. Be careful not to tear them as cabbage can be delicate. Rinse the leaves thoroughly under cool running water to remove any dirt or debris. Lightly shake off excess water.
Step 4
Now, let’s make a small cut into the thicker rib part of each leaf, about halfway from the core towards the tip. This simple step ensures that the steam penetrates evenly, cooking the entire leaf to a tender consistency and making it easy to eat.
Step 5
Fill your steamer pot with a generous amount of water and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat. Once the water is vigorously boiling, carefully place the prepared cabbage leaves onto the steamer rack. Cover the pot and steam on high heat for 3 minutes without reducing the flame. After 3 minutes, carefully flip the cabbage pieces and steam for an additional 2 minutes. That’s it – a total of 5 minutes of steaming!
Step 6
And there you have it – perfectly steamed cabbage! The result is a wonderfully tender cabbage with a satisfying bite and a natural sweetness. Enjoy it as is, or pair it with your favorite dipping sauce like ssamjang or soy sauce for an extra burst of flavor. This is such an easy and healthy way to enjoy cabbage!
