Perfect Steamed Rice in the Microwave
How to Cook Delicious Rice in the Microwave in 10 Minutes (Better Than Packaged!)
Too lazy to go out and buy a microwaveable meal? I decided to try cooking rice in the microwave instead.
Ingredients- Microwaveable rice container (or a deep, microwave-safe bowl)
- 200ml water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
If you have a microwaveable rice container, fill it with rice up to just below the rim. If using a regular microwave-safe bowl, ensure it’s deep enough to prevent overflow. (Standard packaged rice size is the reference.)
Step 2
Rinse the rice a couple of times under running water. Then, pour hot water over the rice and let it soak for 20 minutes. This soaking step helps the rice cook evenly and become tender.
Step 3
Transfer the soaked rice to a large bowl.
Step 4
Add 200ml of water to the bowl with the rice.
Step 5
The reason a large bowl is necessary is to prevent the water from boiling over when cooking the rice in the microwave. Make sure your bowl is deep enough.
Step 6
Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap. Poke several small holes in the plastic wrap with a toothpick or fork to allow steam to escape.
Step 7
Microwave on high for 5 minutes. Carefully remove from the microwave and gently stir the rice to ensure even cooking.
Step 8
Re-cover the bowl with plastic wrap, but leave a small gap on one side so steam can escape slowly. Microwave for another 2 minutes, then remove from the microwave and let it steam for 3 minutes. This resting period is crucial for perfectly cooked rice.
Step 9
After 3 minutes of resting, carefully peel back the plastic wrap. Ta-da!
