Perfect Spaghetti Noodle Cooking: Golden Ratio of Salt and Water Recipe

Following up on my promise to share how to cook pasta in a speedy 2 minutes, today I’m revealing the golden ratio of water and salt for cooking spaghetti noodles perfectly! For a weekend lunch, I took out frozen spaghetti from my freezer, combined it with vegetables and bacon I had at home, and enhanced a single-serving sauce I received as a Clean Food Editor for Cheongjungone to make a delicious spaghetti dish. Here’s how I enjoyed my lunch today.

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Today, I’ll guide you through the secret to perfectly cooking frozen spaghetti noodles, ensuring they turn out wonderfully chewy. With this recipe, anyone can enjoy delicious spaghetti.

Step 1

Step 2

For 100g of spaghetti, the golden ratio is 1 liter of water to 5g of salt. Typically, ‘a pinch of salt’ in recipes refers to about 1g (what you can pinch with three fingers), and ‘a small pinch’ is usually around 0.5g (what you can pinch with two fingers). Achieving this precise measurement will perfectly season your noodles.

Step 2

Step 3

In a large pot, bring 1 liter of water to a rolling boil over high heat. Once the water is vigorously boiling, add 5g of salt and let it come back to a boil. When the water is fully boiling, carefully add the frozen spaghetti noodles all at once.

Step 3

Step 4

After submerging the spaghetti in the hot water, simply stir gently with chopsticks a few times. This prevents the noodles from sticking together and ensures even cooking. After just 2 minutes, the spaghetti noodles will be perfectly seasoned and cooked to a delightful al dente texture.

Step 4

Step 5

Drain the perfectly cooked spaghetti noodles in a colander, ensuring all excess water is removed. Residual water can prevent the sauce from adhering well, so shaking out the water thoroughly is key.

Step 5

Step 6

To enhance the single-serving rosé spaghetti sauce I had, prepare some onion, mushrooms, tomatoes, and bacon. Chop them into bite-sized pieces. Also, cut some frozen broccoli into manageable pieces. Heat oil in a pan and sauté these ingredients until fragrant and slightly softened, creating a delicious vegetable base.

Step 6

Step 7

Here’s a trick to stretch a 1-serving sauce into a 2-serving portion! Add 2 tablespoons each of Worcestershire sauce and tartar sauce (or mayonnaise) and let it simmer. This magically transforms a single serving into two! Finally, add the drained spaghetti noodles to the prepared sauce pan and toss gently to combine. Your delicious, super-fast, and ultra-simple spaghetti, cooked with the golden ratio, is ready to be served! Enjoy your meal!
