Tofu Seasoning- Pinch of salt
Wild Garlic Sauce- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 0.5 Tbsp red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 0.5 Tbsp corn syrup or honey (adjust sweetness)
- 0.5 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds (lightly crushed for aroma)
- Pinch of salt
Wild Garlic Sauce- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 0.5 Tbsp red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 0.5 Tbsp corn syrup or honey (adjust sweetness)
- 0.5 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds (lightly crushed for aroma)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the fresh wild garlic. Trim any dirt or roots from the base of the wild garlic stalks. If there are any papery outer skins on the bulbous part, gently peel them off. Wash the wild garlic thoroughly under running water and shake off excess moisture.
Step 2
Now, let’s make the delicious wild garlic sauce. In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, red pepper flakes, sesame oil, corn syrup (or honey), and toasted sesame seeds. Mix everything well with a spoon until evenly incorporated. Feel free to adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your spice preference.
Step 3
It’s time to prepare the tofu for searing. Cut the block of tofu into bite-sized pieces, about 1.5 to 2 cm thick (e.g., squares or rectangles). After cutting, gently press the tofu pieces between layers of paper towels to absorb excess moisture. This step is crucial for achieving a crispy exterior and preventing oil splatters.
Step 4
Lightly season the tofu for added flavor. Sprinkle a small pinch of salt on both sides of the tofu pieces. Be careful not to oversalt. You can also add a light dusting of black pepper for extra aroma, if desired.
Step 5
Heat a frying pan over medium-low heat and add 1 tablespoon of perilla oil (or your preferred cooking oil). Place the seasoned tofu pieces in the hot pan. Sear the tofu, flipping occasionally, until both sides are golden brown and crispy. Cooking slowly over medium-low heat ensures the tofu is cooked through and has a pleasant texture.
Step 6
Finally, assemble the dish! Arrange the beautifully pan-seared tofu on a serving plate. Generously spoon the prepared zesty wild garlic sauce over the tofu. This dish is best enjoyed immediately to savor the fresh flavors. It makes a wonderful side dish for rice or a delightful appetizer!
