Main Ingredients
  • 1 packet oysters (approx. 200-250g)
  • 1 block firm tofu (for pan-frying, approx. 300-350g)
  • 1/2 medium onion
  • 1/2 bunch chives (approx. 30g)
  • 1/2 red chili pepper
  • 1 green chili pepper (e.g., Korean Cheongyang chili)

Seasoning Sauce
  • 0.5 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp oyster sauce
  • 0.5 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Gently rinse the oysters under cold running water in a colander. You can sprinkle a pinch of salt and lightly rub them to remove any impurities. Drain them thoroughly.

Step 2

Cut the firm tofu into approximately 1cm thick slices, resembling steak portions. You can then cut these slices in half to create smaller, easier-to-handle pieces.

Step 3

Place the cut tofu slices on paper towels and gently press to absorb as much moisture as possible. Removing excess water will help the tofu get crispy when pan-fried.

Step 4

Prepare the vegetables while the tofu is draining. Cut the chives into about 5cm lengths. Thinly slice the onion. Finely chop the red and green chili peppers (deseeded if preferred for less heat).

Step 5

Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Place the tofu slices in the hot oil and pan-fry until golden brown and slightly crispy on both sides.

Step 6

While the tofu is cooking, prepare the seasoning sauce. In a small bowl, combine 0.5 tsp soy sauce, 0.5 tsp minced garlic, and 1 tsp oyster sauce. Mix well. (Tip: If you are using two packs of oysters or prefer a saltier flavor, you can increase the amount of soy sauce, oyster sauce, and garlic by 1 tsp each.)

Step 7

Once the tofu is nicely browned on one side, flip it over. Reduce the heat to low and flip the tofu one more time. This ensures even cooking and a tender interior with a crispy exterior.

Step 8

Remove the pan-fried tofu from the pan and place it on paper towels to drain any excess oil. This step helps to keep the dish from feeling too greasy.

Step 9

In a clean pan, add a little oil and heat over high heat. Add the sliced onions, red chili, and green chili peppers. Stir-fry quickly until the vegetables are slightly softened but still retain some crispness.

Step 10

Add half of the chopped chives to the pan with the vegetables. Then, add the drained oysters. Cook the oysters briefly until they just begin to firm up; overcooking can make them tough.

Step 11

Pour the prepared seasoning sauce into the pan and toss everything together. Add the remaining chives and finish with 1 tsp of sesame oil for aroma. Turn off the heat.

Step 12

To serve, you can place a bed of the chopped chives on the serving plate. Then, arrange the pan-fried tofu steaks on top. (Alternatively, you can skip the chive bed and place the tofu directly on the plate.)

Step 13

Finally, spoon the sautéed oyster and vegetable mixture over the tofu steaks. This creates a beautiful and delicious Oyster Tofu Steak, a healthy and satisfying meal.
