Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s gather your ingredients for a nutritious and delicious meal, prepared with HACCP-certified healthy produce. You can achieve great taste and health benefits on a budget.

Step 2

Choose and prepare one of two delicious sauce options to suit your taste. For the ‘Sweet & Savory Sauce,’ mix 1 Tbsp oyster sauce, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp mirin, and 0.5 Tbsp sugar. For the ‘Spicy Sauce,’ combine 0.5 Tbsp gochujang, 1 Tbsp gochugaru, 0.5 Tbsp soy sauce, 0.5 Tbsp sugar, and 1 Tbsp mirin.

Step 3

Slice the fish cakes into strips approximately 0.5 cm thick. These will add a wonderful chewy texture to your dish.

Step 4

Thinly shred the cabbage. You’ll need about half of a small head or a quarter of a large head. Aim for shreds about 0.5 cm thick to maintain a pleasant crunch.

Step 5

Julienne the carrot into pieces roughly the same thickness as the shredded cabbage. This will add a lovely color and subtle sweetness.

Step 6

Place the shredded cabbage in a deep pan. Drizzle generously with olive oil, then stir-fry over low heat. Gently toss the cabbage, allowing it to soften slightly until it begins to wilt.

Step 7

Once the cabbage is coated in olive oil and appears slightly glossy, add a pinch of black pepper, the julienned carrots, and minced garlic. Continue to stir-fry until the vegetables are tender.

Step 8

When the cabbage and carrots are cooked to a tender-crisp consistency and look glossy, add the sliced fish cakes to the pan. Stir well to combine with the vegetables.

Step 9

Pour your chosen sauce (either the Sweet & Savory or Spicy sauce) into the pan. Stir everything together to ensure the sauce evenly coats all the ingredients. Cook for about 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Step 10

Just before turning off the heat, drizzle in 1 tsp of sesame oil and sprinkle generously with toasted sesame seeds. Give it a final stir to incorporate these aromatic finishes.

Step 11

While delicious on its own, adding a fried egg on top elevates this dish to a truly satisfying meal. It’s a perfect finishing touch!

Step 12

Serve warm rice in a bowl. Generously spoon the prepared ‘Sweet & Savory Cabbage Fish Cake’ or ‘Spicy Cabbage Fish Cake’ mixture over the rice.

Step 13

Gently place the fried egg on top of the rice bowl for a visually appealing and complete dish.

Step 14

Break the yolk with your spoon and mix it with the savory cabbage and fish cake mixture and rice. Enjoy this incredibly simple yet hearty and nutritious meal, made affordably!
