Recipe Info

  • Category : Soup / Broth
  • Ingredient Category : Seafood
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Boil / Simmer
  • Servings : 4 servings
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Ingredients

  • Seaweed (Maesaengi) 6g
  • Oysters 30g
  • Minced garlic 1 tsp
  • Sesame oil 1 tsp
  • Soup soy sauce (Guk-ganjang) 2 Tbsp
  • Broth (Anchovy-kelp broth or rice water) 750ml

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Naturally thaw the frozen seaweed (maesaengi) at room temperature. If it’s not thawing easily, you can add 1 tsp of sesame oil to a pan, add the seaweed, and gently stir-fry over low heat to help it thaw more smoothly and develop a better texture.

Step 1

Step 2

Rinse the fresh oysters gently under running water. Remove any shells or debris, then drain them well in a colander.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the seaweed is fully thawed, heat 1 tsp of sesame oil in the pan and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant. (If using dried seaweed, soak it in cold water for about 1 hour. Avoid using hot water, as it can cause the seaweed to clump.)

Step 3

Step 4

Pour the prepared 750ml of broth into the pan with the fragrant garlic and bring it to a boil. Season with 2 Tbsp of soup soy sauce to start. You can add salt later if needed to adjust the taste.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the broth begins to boil, add the cleaned oysters. Cook just until the oysters are plump and about half cooked. (Note: When adding seaweed, the soup may not produce much foam, making it hard to tell if it’s boiling. Add the oysters once you see the broth is simmering.)

Step 5

Step 6

When the oysters are perfectly cooked, your Seaweed Oyster Soup is ready! Enjoy the nutty aroma of sesame oil and the clear, deep taste of the sea. It’s easy on the stomach, making it excellent for a hangover, and can provide a nourishing meal for those who need a boost of energy.

Step 6

Step 7

This finished Seaweed Oyster Soup can also be enjoyed as a hearty meal by adding cooked rice and turning it into a delicious Seaweed Oyster Porridge. Enjoy this versatile and filling dish!
