Today, we’re making it from scratch using black sesame seeds I had previously purchased. This recipe offers a delightful experience with the deep, savory taste of freshly ground black sesame, balanced by the creamy sweetness of milk and a shot of espresso. It’s perfect for a special treat at your home cafe, whether for a busy morning or a relaxing afternoon.

Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp roasted black sesame seeds
  • 150ml milk
  • 100ml heavy cream
  • 1 shot espresso (approx. 30ml)
  • 1 Tbsp sugar (or to taste)

Cooking Instructions

First, place 4 tablespoons of roasted black sesame seeds into a blender or grinder. Grind them until they are as fine as possible. Achieving a very smooth powder is key to the latte’s creamy texture.

In a bowl, combine 100ml of heavy cream and the finely ground black sesame powder. Mix them together so the rich aroma of black sesame is well incorporated into the cream.

Next, add 1 tablespoon of sugar. Using a hand mixer or a whisk (even a small one from Daiso works well), whip the mixture until it forms soft, fluffy peaks, similar to whipped cream. Be careful not to over-whip, as it can turn buttery.

Brew one shot of espresso. If you have a capsule coffee machine, use that. If not, you can dissolve a teaspoon of instant coffee in a small amount of hot water for a strong coffee base. Adjust the coffee strength to your preference.
