Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare all the ingredients for your delicious Beef and Seaweed Porridge. Wash the rice and get the beef and seaweed ready for use.

Step 2
Rinse the medium-grain rice thoroughly under running water until clean. Place the rinsed rice in a bowl and soak it in water for about 1 hour. Soaking the rice makes the porridge much smoother and easier to digest.

Step 3
In a separate bowl, combine the minced beef with 1 tsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, a little salt, and pepper. Mix well by hand to marinate. This step helps to eliminate any gamey smell from the beef and enhances its savory flavor.

Step 4
Soak the dried seaweed in cold water for about 10 minutes until it is fully rehydrated. Squeeze out excess water, then chop the seaweed finely. This ensures the seaweed is evenly distributed throughout the porridge, adding flavor.

Step 5
Heat about 1/2 Tbsp of sesame oil in a pot or a frying pan over medium heat. Add the marinated minced beef and stir-fry until the surface of the beef turns white.

Step 6
Once the beef is partially cooked, add the soaked seaweed and the drained rice to the pot. Stir-fry together for about 3-4 minutes, until the rice grains become translucent. This step helps the rice grains break down, resulting in a smoother porridge.

Step 7
The process of the rice grains becoming translucent and being stir-fried is crucial for the porridge’s texture and flavor. Continue stir-frying until the rice grains are coated in oil and appear semi-translucent.

Step 8
Now it’s time to add water. Pour in approximately 6 times the volume of water as rice (e.g., for 100g of rice, use 600ml of water). You can adjust the amount of water based on the rice quantity and your preferred consistency. A 1:6 rice-to-water ratio is standard, but feel free to modify.

Step 9
Once the water comes to a boil, reduce the heat to medium-low. Stir continuously with a ladle to prevent the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pot. Let it simmer gently until the rice grains are soft and broken down, which takes about 15-20 minutes. Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt if needed.

Step 10
Ladle the well-cooked Beef and Seaweed Porridge into bowls. Garnish generously with sesame seeds and crumbled laver (gim/nori) for an extra nutty flavor. Enjoy your nutritious and delicious Beef and Seaweed Porridge!
