Ingredients

  • 2 handfuls of fresh zucchini leaves
  • 2 liters of water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare your fresh zucchini leaves. Choose leaves that are vibrant green and not wilted for the best results.

Step 1

Step 2

Gently bend the tough stems of the zucchini leaves, peeling away the fibrous outer layer. This crucial step ensures the leaves become tender and enjoyable after steaming.

Step 2

Step 3

Here are the zucchini leaves with the fibrous parts removed, ready for steaming.

Step 3

Step 4

Fill a large bowl with cold water and add 1 to 2 tablespoons of vinegar. Submerge the prepared zucchini leaves for about 10 minutes. Afterward, rinse them thoroughly under running water 2-3 times to remove any dirt or impurities and enhance their freshness. Gently shake off excess water.

Step 4

Step 5

In a steamer pot, add 2 liters of water and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat until plenty of steam is produced. Ensure there’s enough water to last for the 8-minute steaming time, as too little water can cause the pot to dry out. You’ll know it’s ready when you see condensation on the lid and strong steam.

Step 5

Step 6

Carefully place the prepared zucchini leaves into the steaming basket once the steam is strong. Spreading them out slightly rather than piling them up will help them steam evenly.

Step 6

Step 7

Cover the steamer tightly and steam over high heat for approximately 8 minutes. This time might vary slightly depending on the thickness and size of your zucchini leaves, so you can check for doneness after a few minutes.

Step 7

Step 8

After 8 minutes, the zucchini leaves should be a translucent green and feel very tender. You can test for doneness by piercing a leaf with a chopstick; it should go through easily if cooked properly.

Step 8

Step 9

Once steamed, immediately transfer the zucchini leaves to a colander or a draining rack and spread them out to cool slightly. Steaming them too hot can cause the leaves to tear when wrapping.

Step 9

Step 10

Serve the warm, tender zucchini leaves with a side of rice and your favorite ssamjang (Korean soybean paste dip). Adding gochujang (Korean chili paste) is also a delicious option. Enjoy your healthy and flavorful zucchini leaf wraps!
