- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 4 Tbsp water
- 1 Tbsp plum extract (or syrup)
- 1 Tbsp cooking wine (like mirin)
- 1/2 Tbsp sake or ginger wine
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s start by appreciating the incredible benefits of salmon! Salmon is packed with high-quality protein and healthy fats essential for our bodies. It’s particularly rich in EPA, which helps maintain blood vessel health, and DHA, which aids in brain function, earning it the title of ‘superfood.’ Enjoy both health and deliciousness with this star of the sea! Pat the salmon fillet dry with paper towels, season lightly with salt and pepper, and drizzle with olive oil. Let it marinate for about 15-20 minutes.
Step 2
After the salmon has marinated for about 30 minutes, it’s time to cook it. Heat a pan over medium heat. Carefully place the salmon fillet, skin-side down first. Let it cook undisturbed until the skin is nicely crisped and the flesh is golden brown. Once one side is sufficiently cooked, gently flip it over to cook the other side.
Step 3
See those beautiful grill marks? They make the salmon steak look even more appetizing! Today’s technique is to cook the salmon until the exterior is crispy but the inside remains tender and moist. Cook until the outside is golden brown and enticing. If you prefer your salmon cooked all the way through, you can carefully stand it on its sides to ensure even cooking.
Step 4
Now, let’s make this salmon steak extra special with a delightful soy sauce glaze. In a small saucepan, combine 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 4 Tbsp water, 1 Tbsp plum extract, 1 Tbsp cooking wine, and 1/2 Tbsp sake or ginger wine. Add the sliced green onion and garlic. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat, allowing the flavors to meld together.
Step 5
Once the sauce is bubbling and fragrant, carefully add the pan-seared salmon into the saucepan. Reduce the heat to low and spoon the simmering sauce over the salmon for about 1-2 minutes. This process infuses the salmon with the savory sauce, enhancing its overall flavor.
Step 6
Voilà! Your exquisite salmon steak is ready. It boasts a delightful contrast of a slightly crispy exterior and a wonderfully tender, moist interior. Glazed with the special soy sauce, it’s perfectly balanced – not too rich, but deeply savory. This dish is sure to impress your entire family.
