A nostalgic side dish reminiscent of childhood! When you’re missing a hearty meat dish, this simple sausage stir-fry is the perfect solution to make your meal satisfying. Unlike typical vegetable stir-fries, this recipe uses a generous amount of gochujang (Korean chili paste) for a spicy yet sweet flavor that’s incredibly appealing as a side dish for rice.   • Vienna sausages 560g
  • 1 onion (medium-sized)
  • 7 cloves garlic

Seasoning

  • 1 Tbsp cooking oil
  • 1.5 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1 Tbsp ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 Tbsp oligosaccharide (or corn syrup)
  • 3 Tbsp water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the Vienna sausages. Make diagonal slits on 2-3 spots on the body of each sausage. This not only makes them visually appealing but also helps the sauce penetrate better, enhancing the flavor.

Briefly blanch the sausages in boiling water for about 30 seconds to 1 minute. This step helps to remove excess sodium, impurities, and some of the oil, resulting in a cleaner and milder taste.

Peel and wash the onion, then dice it into bite-sized pieces, about 1.5cm cubes. Slice the 7 garlic cloves into 2-3 thick pieces. Ensure all your vegetables are prepped and ready to go.

Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add 1 Tbsp of cooking oil. Add the blanched sausages, diced onion, and sliced garlic. Stir-fry until the ingredients are lightly browned and the vegetables begin to soften.

Now, let’s make the delicious sauce! Add 1.5 Tbsp gochujang, 1 Tbsp ketchup, 1 Tbsp oyster sauce, 3 Tbsp water, and 1 Tbsp oligosaccharide to the pan. Stir everything together well. Continue to stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and evenly coats all the ingredients. You’re looking for a glossy finish.
