Here’s a recipe for a delicious, nostalgic salad bread that’s incredibly easy to make at home. This is the hot dog salad bread popularized by Choi Hwa-jung, and it’s perfect for a weekend morning with ingredients you likely already have. Using frozen hot dogs, you can create a New York-style hot dog experience by adding fresh vegetables and sauces. If you love the crunchy texture of cabbage sandwiches, you’ll adore this combination with hot dogs. Simply warm the hot dog and tuck in fresh veggies for a quick and satisfying meal. This recipe for making salad bread with frozen hot dogs is straightforward and easy for anyone to follow.
Ingredients- 2 frozen hot dogs (cheese and sausage combo recommended)
- 2 cups shredded cabbage
- 1 handful cucumber (thinly sliced)
- 1 handful carrot (thinly sliced)
- Ketchup, to taste
- Mustard sauce, to taste
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare two frozen hot dogs. Using a combo of cheese and sausage will be a hit with both kids and adults. You can heat the hot dogs in a microwave or an air fryer. Today, we’ll use the air fryer for a crispier texture. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for about 15 minutes. The cooking time and temperature may vary depending on your air fryer model, so keep an eye on them and adjust as needed.
Step 2
While the hot dogs are cooking, prepare your fresh vegetables. Shred the cabbage finely. You can thinly slice or shred the carrots and cucumbers according to your preference. I chose to slice them a bit thicker for a satisfying crunch.
Step 3
Once the hot dogs are nicely browned, remove the wooden stick first.
Step 4
Now, it’s time to slice the hot dog in half. Since you’ll be filling it with ingredients, only cut about two-thirds of the way through, ensuring it doesn’t split completely. Slice carefully.
Step 5
Generously stuff the prepared shredded cabbage, cucumber, and carrot into the slit of the hot dog. Don’t be shy with the vegetables – pack them in!
Step 6
With the fresh vegetables piled high, all that’s left is to add the sauces to complete your creation.
Step 7
Finally, drizzle ketchup to your liking. I also added a bit of mustard sauce for an extra layer of flavor. The combination of the crispy exterior of the hot dog with the fresh, crisp vegetables creates an amazing taste. I was surprised at how wonderfully frozen hot dogs can be transformed! It’s a perfect brunch dish for the weekend, and a great way to use up those frozen hot dogs. This salad bread requires no complicated cooking steps, making it an easy and delicious treat for everyone to enjoy!
