Nostalgic Salad Bread: Easy Old-Fashioned Salad Bread Recipe Using Crispy Hot Dogs
Inspired by SNS, a taste of nostalgia! Simple and delicious salad bread made with crispy hot dogs.
Scrolling through social media recently, I was reminded of the nostalgic salad bread I used to love as a child. It turns out you can easily recreate that classic taste at home using the trendy crispy hot dogs! Since I had plenty of cabbage on hand and had bought some crispy hot dogs, I decided to make this delicious cabbage salad bread myself. It’s a delightful combination of crunchy cabbage and a sweet and tangy dressing that everyone, young and old, will surely enjoy!
Ingredients (Makes 2 servings)
- 2 Crispy Hot Dogs
- 1/4 Cabbage (approx. 150g)
- 1/2 Carrot (approx. 50g)
Dressing (Seasoning)
- 2 Tbsp Mayonnaise (approx. 30g)
- 2 Tbsp Ketchup (approx. 30g)
- Pinch of Black Pepper
- 2 Tbsp Mayonnaise (approx. 30g)
- 2 Tbsp Ketchup (approx. 30g)
- Pinch of Black Pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the cabbage thoroughly. Then, use a peeler or mandoline to shred it into very thin strips. Shredding it finely will give you a much better texture. Soak the shredded cabbage in cold water for about 10 minutes to make it extra crisp. Afterwards, drain it well in a sieve, ensuring all the excess water is removed.
Step 2
Finely shred the carrot to a similar thickness as the cabbage. Adding carrots not only enhances the color but also boosts the nutritional value.
Step 3
In a large bowl, combine the drained shredded cabbage and shredded carrot. Add 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise and a pinch of black pepper to your liking. Mix everything gently until well combined to create the salad. (Tip: For a richer flavor, you can add a small amount of sugar or mustard sauce according to your preference.)
Step 4
Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (350°F). Place the crispy hot dogs inside and cook for approximately 12 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. (Tip: Cooking times may vary depending on your air fryer model, so adjust as needed.)
Step 5
Carefully remove the wooden skewer from the cooked hot dogs. Then, using a sharp knife, make a lengthwise cut down the center of each hot dog, stopping just before you cut all the way through. You want to create a pocket to hold the filling, so don’t cut them completely in half.
Step 6
Generously fill the slit in each hot dog with the prepared cabbage salad. Make sure to pack it in well so it doesn’t fall out.
Step 7
Finally, drizzle ketchup in a zigzag pattern over the salad and the top of the hot dog bun. Your nostalgic salad bread, the crispy hot dog salad bread, is now complete! Enjoy this simple yet special snack or brunch.
