Ingredients

  • 6 Morning Buns (soft rolls)
  • 3 long sausages
  • 2 slices Cheddar cheese
  • 2 slices Mozzarella cheese
  • 2 Tbsp Spaghetti sauce or Ketchup

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, carefully cut a V-shape into the top center of each morning bun, being careful not to cut all the way through. While a straight cut is possible, a V-shape allows you to fit more filling and prevents the bun from collapsing or bursting, especially with thicker sausages, resulting in a prettier presentation.

Step 1

Step 2

Spread the spaghetti sauce evenly inside the hollowed-out part of the bun. You can adjust the amount of sauce to your liking. If you don’t have spaghetti sauce, ketchup makes a great substitute and will still yield a delicious sausage bun.

Step 2

Step 3

Cut each sausage in half. If your sausages are very thin, you can use them whole. Place the sausage pieces onto the bun, nestled into the sauce.

Step 3

Step 4

Generously layer the mozzarella cheese over the sausage first, followed by the cheddar cheese slices on top. The order of the cheeses doesn’t strictly matter; I placed the cheddar on last because I find the yellow color visually appealing on top.

Step 4

Step 5

Now, it’s time for the microwave! For a 1000W microwave, heat one bun for about 40 seconds, or two buns for about 60 seconds. This will melt the cheese beautifully. Once the cheese is nicely melted, you can sprinkle a pinch of parsley on top for extra flavor and visual appeal. These homemade sausage buns evoke the delicious taste of those sold at school snack bars, bringing back wonderful memories!
