Today’s recipe is Omurice! Enjoy this classic comfort food, featuring fluffy scrambled eggs draped over savory fried rice. It’s a simple yet satisfying meal that brings back fond memories.
Fried Rice Ingredients- 1 handful of ground beef or sausage
- 1/2 stalk of green onion
- 1 mushroom
- 1/6 zucchini
- 1/4 onion
- 0.5 Tbsp butter
Omurice Sauce- 6 Tbsp ketchup
- 2 Tbsp vinegar
- 4 Tbsp soy sauce
- 3 Tbsp sugar
- 6 Tbsp ketchup
- 2 Tbsp vinegar
- 4 Tbsp soy sauce
- 3 Tbsp sugar
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s make the special sauce that will make your omurice incredibly delicious. In a mixing bowl, combine 6 tablespoons of ketchup, 2 tablespoons of vinegar, 4 tablespoons of soy sauce, and 3 tablespoons of sugar. Whisk everything together until well combined. Taste the sauce and adjust the flavors by adding a little more ketchup or sugar if needed, to achieve a perfect balance of sweet and tangy.
Step 2
Next, prepare the ingredients for the fried rice. Feel free to use any vegetables you have on hand or prefer! I’ve prepared ground beef, finely chopped green onions, sausage, onion, and zucchini, along with mushrooms for added flavor and texture. If you’re using sausage, slice it into bite-sized pieces.
Step 3
Melt 0.5 tablespoon of butter in a heated pan. The rich, buttery aroma will make your fried rice even more delicious and fragrant.
Step 4
Once the butter is melted, add the ground beef (or sausage) and stir-fry until it’s nicely browned and cooked through. Ensure the meat is thoroughly cooked to avoid any raw taste.
Step 5
When the meat is partially cooked, add 0.5 teaspoon of minced garlic and stir-fry with the meat. The garlic will release its fragrant aroma, enhancing the overall flavor of the fried rice.
Step 6
Now, add the sausage (if you’re using it instead of ground beef) and the chopped green onions. Stir-fry until the green onions become fragrant, releasing their sweet aroma. Sautéing the green onions first brings out their natural sweetness and adds depth to the dish.
Step 7
Add all the other prepared vegetables (onion, zucchini, mushrooms, etc.) to the pan and stir-fry together until they become tender. If you enjoy a pop of sweetness and texture, consider adding some corn kernels at this stage.
Step 8
Once the vegetables are well-cooked, pour in the prepared special sauce. Stir continuously to coat all the ingredients evenly and let the sauce simmer and thicken slightly, making sure it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan. Once the sauce has reduced a bit, add 4 servings of cooked rice. Gently mix and stir-fry the rice with the sauce and ingredients until everything is well combined and the rice is evenly coated. This ensures every grain of rice is infused with flavor.
Step 9
Finally, it’s time to create the iconic egg topping! Lightly grease another pan, pour in beaten eggs, and cook them gently until they are set but still soft. Carefully slide the cooked egg over the fried rice, creating a beautiful, fluffy blanket. You can cook the egg to your preference – a soft, runny center or fully cooked. Enjoy your homemade omurice!
