Nostalgic Crispy Sweet Ramen Snacks
Grandma’s Secret Recipe! Nostalgic Ramen Snacks Everyone Loves
Do you remember crushing Shin Ramyun and Samyang Ramyun to eat as a snack, which was even tastier than the commercial ‘Ppusyeo Ppusyeo’ snacks? I’ve revived that sweet and crispy nostalgic taste with grandma’s secret recipe! Make your family time happy with this simple yet addictively delicious ‘Ramen Ttang’ (Crispy Ramen Snack). JMT guaranteed!
Essential Ingredients- 2 packs of instant ramen (noodles that aren’t too thin are best)
- 50g butter (approx. 3.5 Tbsp)
- 50g sugar (approx. 4 Tbsp)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s make some nostalgic Ramen Ttang, just like in the old days! For Ramen Ttang, it’s best to use ramen with slightly thicker noodles rather than very thin ones, so they have a satisfying chew after being crushed. Snack Ramyun is the thinnest, but you can make delicious Ramen Ttang with any ramen you have at home!
Step 2
1. Crush the ramen: First, open the ramen packaging and set aside the seasoning powder. Crush the ramen noodles into bite-sized pieces. Using a mallet is convenient, but you can also crush them with your hands or by shaking the bag. Have fun crushing them like you did as a child!
Step 3
Here are the crushed ramen noodles. I used Samyang Ramyun and Ansungtangmyun. Samyang Ramyun has slightly thinner noodles, but both turn out delicious, so don’t worry too much about it. The key is to use only the noodles without the seasoning.
Step 4
2. Melt the butter over low heat: Place a pan over low heat and slowly melt 50g of butter. It’s important to melt the butter gently without letting it burn.
Step 5
3. Add the crushed ramen to the melted butter and stir-fry: Once the butter is completely melted, add all the crushed ramen noodles and mix well to coat them evenly with the butter.
Step 6
Stir-fry the ramen noodles over low heat until they turn a light golden brown. This process helps to make the ramen crispy and adds a savory aroma.
Step 7
4. Add sugar and stir-fry: Once the ramen is lightly browned, add 50g of sugar and stir-fry vigorously. The key to Ramen Ttang is this sugar coating! As the sugar melts, it will add sweetness and a crispy texture to the ramen noodles. It’s a different level of deliciousness compared to just crushing raw ramen.
Step 8
As the butter and sugar combine and caramelize, the ramen noodles will start to stick together. Continue stir-frying for about 5-7 minutes without stopping. As the sugar coating becomes thin and a light caramel color appears, stir-fry more vigorously. Be careful not to burn it, and ensure the sugar is evenly coated on the noodles.
Step 9
Delicious Ramen Ttang, carefully stir-fried! Now, transfer it from the pan to a wide plate or parchment paper and let it cool. It can clump together if left in a pile while hot, so spreading it out thinly will help you create your desired shape.
Step 10
As it cools and spreads out, the sugar coating will harden and naturally set into shape. Gently press with chopsticks or a spatula to form your desired thickness and shape for a prettier Ramen Ttang.
Step 11
Wow, the appetizing Ramen Ttang is complete! This time, I didn’t crush the ramen too finely, so the noodles remained somewhat intact while clinging together, making it resemble ‘Ramen Gangjeong’ (Ramen Brittle). Ramen Ttang where the noodles are well-combined is tastier and has a better texture than small, separated pieces.
Step 12
It yields a surprisingly generous amount, and it’s perfect for a light snack when you’re tired of regular snacks or crave a taste of childhood. It’s quick and easy to make, so be sure to try it even if it’s not a special occasion!
Step 13
P.S.: Making this Ramen Ttang made me feel my grandmother’s love. I remembered the Ramen Ttang she used to make when I was little and saw me crushing raw ramen. If I were grandma, I would have just let my granddaughter eat the ramen as is. Thank you for bringing back these memories. It was quite a workout for my arms, but the delicious Ramen Ttang made the accomplishment doubly rewarding! ㅜㅜ..
